* Add an additional $1.25million to the cap space here to account for the Fleury trade in the description below.

Fleury trade:
Chicago trades Fleury with 25% retained to Buffalo
Buffalo trades Fleury with another 50% retained to Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh receives Fleury at a $1.25million cap hit
Pittsburgh trades Casey DeSmith to Buffalo and Marcus Pettersson to Chicago

Penguins get their veteran netminder while the Blackhawks get an analytically sound left handed defenseman, which they need. Buffalo gets a decent goalie as they have none signed right now. Chicago pulls an asset out of nothing which is a big win for them.

Contracts are based off of Evolving Hockey’s projections, with Aston-Reese and Tatar making a bit less as ZAR is a fourth liner who does not have much negotiating room and Tatar value seems to be at an all time low.

This is just for fun and not at all a prediction so everyone relax and enjoy today’s frenzy!

I think your math is off with fleury
7 x 25% retained = 7 - 1.75 = 5.25
5.25 x 50% retained = 5.25 - 2.625 = 2.625 mil left on his deal

However I doubt you need to pay Tatar more than 3 mil so should still all work.

Ah yeah, now you see why I’m not in college for mathematics lol. I definitely did that wrong. In hindsight, I was going for both teams retaining 50% each though that’d be hard to convince Chicago to do so yeah fair point.

And I’d hope so with Tatar. I’d be surprised if he got a big piney deal after being healthy scratched in the playoffs so much.

The idea of Chicago dedicating just over 7.5 million to Petterson this year is pretty funny.
