If the Red Wings got Wright and Barkov I don't think they'd need Eichel. I don't think that trade gets accepted by Buf anyway especially with 2m retained.

Some of these guys probably won't be nhl ready by 2022 but I like the team you made.
Since guys might not be ready the savings on Eichel could go to other UFA's.

Eichel and Larkin were line mates U18 and U20 US teams. I'm pretty sure that is the reason he wanted Eichel as well.

In this scenario, the Eichel trade happens now. He gets his surgery and takes plenty of time to recover/rehab. 40-60 games. Use the season to rotate young guys in and evaluate who's ready. Lottery finish, draft Wright. Next summer, Barkov likes what he sees and jumps on board. Next season Eichel comes back 100%. Crazy center depth. Young guys takes big steps forward and the team gels. Trade deadline comes and we have $13m+ and tons of prospects to address any weaknesses. Cup parade in Detroit goes off. Fast forward 3 years when Eichel contract is expiring we pick the best 2 of Barkov, Eichel and Wright and trade the other multi Stanley cup winning franchise centerman for an insane package of futures. Veleno moves up to #3 center. 2 years later Werenski's contract is up and comes home. Detroit sets an unbeatable professional sports streak of 20 championships in a row.
