“Better at losing” is a false statement. The leafs have failed to get out of the 1st round 3 years in a row. The islanders have at least been making progress and getting closer to ultimate goal in the last 3 years. They’ve improved every year, while the leafs have gotten worse.

The leafs have one of the worst D cores in the league and they are only getting older. Talk about a window slamming shut. The leafs should probably just trade Matthews and rebuild.

Muzzin is 32, a top pair defender and his speed has never been his game, while I agree the term is a little risky it's not long enough to be a problem. Maybe his last year could pose an issue but one year is likely not that hard to move.

Muzzin will be 33 soon , he can easily fall off a cliff as soon as next season. Three years left by the way. Dubas also decided to give him signing bonuses throughout the contract making it buyout proof. He will be very hard to move considering Dubas always overpays in trades. Terrible negotiater. Plus he’s injury prone. Brodie is also signed at 5 mill till his mid 30s. What is with Dubas giving these long term deals to declining mediocre defenseman? So how did they go up 3-1 when JT was hurt 5 minutes into game one? They should have won and I won't give any excuses. However, the depth and goaltending wasn't the problem. They kept Montreal to 2 goals a game as well but just didn't score when they needed too. I personally blame Marner the most but it's not really a long term issue.

It is a long term issue. Marner doesn’t have what it takes to be effective in the playoffs. He’s also overpaid by 3-3.5 mill

Suzuki played the whole series and Romanov was in for the first couple games. You didn't watch a game and are just chirping and as usual for Islander fans are extremely proud about losing better than other teams.

I disagree. I don't think he's going to be a point producer but his game is solid. More of a Strahlman type of player. Very solid defensively and an incredible skater.

He's a top 10 point getter in the NHL. Would be the best player on a lot of teams. Just not in Toronto which is what he needs to come to terms with.

His decision making at the NHL level has been bad, the game seems too fast for him. He’ll be a #5 at best. He looks like a tweener right now, does well in the AHL but struggles mightily in the NHL

He puts up a lot of points because of the centers he plays with. Both Matthews and Tavares have better numbers without him. He’s worth 7.5-8 mill and the guy is being paid 11 mill when he can’t drive his own line. Pretty embarassing IMO

It's abundantly clear you don't watch the Leafs so this is just made up opinions you are getting from other people on hockey forums. His ability to stand up opponents at center ice of the blueline is text book defending and he's absolutely terrific at it. His defensive game has far outpaced his offence which is fine, he doesn't need to be offensive in the NHL. He's going to be an effective NHLer without a doubt.
