I think if the Devils want Quinn it would start with Hischier.

Hot take-Smith is going to be very close to as good offensively as Quinn, and likely better defensively.

I can agree with this... sorta. I think Smith will be very close to him, but just not as good.

I know it's a gimmick and all to send Quinn to NJD but come on man. By next season, Ty Smith could alone be as valuable as Quinn, that package is INSANE.

Habs would rather keep Drouin but would consider another pick maybe a 2nd or another 3rd?

Cheers M8!

I can't see a trade where both fanbases would be happy. For me the big problem with Quinn is how much he likely will sign for, so I wouldn't be comfortable sending anything more than Zacha and top 10 protected 2023 1st rd pick, maybe adding late round picks and retention for Zacha's contract but that's it.

Yeah, I think Quinn will continue to be one of the top offensive D-men in the league, I just think that for that price, you better hope you're getting more in your own end, otherwise you've got a better version of Tyson Barrie, for $8.25 mil per year.

Again, nothing against Quinn, because he's super fun to watch, I think I'd rather have Smith, Foote, Bratt and the two 1sts though.

tears of joy F*ckin' homer!

Think a lot of the difference that we'll see over the next few years will depend on who each of the guys are playing with. For instance, I'm probably not putting Hughes anywhere near Myers, Schmidt, or Hamonic. Probably looks better with someone who can skate and play in his own end.

Ah yes, totally unlike Ty Smith who had the defensive prowess of Tennyson and Subban to shelter him for his rookie season. Yes indeed.

Paulie buddy...read back in the thread...I was the one who said "Hot take-Smith is going to be very close to as good offensively as Quinn, and likely better defensively.". I'm on your side here...I was just ribbing my man @Devil1122.

Yeah no I get that, my comment was in jest as well, sry if it didn’t come across like that.
It’s also a mute point of mine cuz I saw just now that you wrote “over the next few years”. Guess my reading comprehension isn’t as good as I thought.

I think Ty Smith will develop better than Quinn for several reasons
1. Ty is already better defensively
2. Better partners in NJ (Hamilton+Severson>Myers+Hamonic)
3. Not much competition on the left side

Yeah, I don't disagree. IMO, Quinn probably has a higher ceiling, but for the reasons you mentioned, Smith probably ends up being right there.
