Not worth it. He’s literally like 25 years old lol. Why give up all those futures for a guy who has played a total like 50 games who was drafted 6 years ago. Kirill is great but to be honest, I don’t think he’s here to play as a team player, he’s here to make the cash.

I hear you, definitely a lot to give lol. Just think if you have a chance at getting Jack an elite, young, scoring winger to put on his wing you should make it happen. Holtz and Mercer are likely 2 years away from having a big impact and the picks could be nothing, or you have to wait on them for 4 years. Would do a lot for Jack to have a real high end winger playing with him for those years instead of waiting on picks and prospects to grow.

Missing on 2 first round picks is very unfortunate and not super likely. I think it’s better to keep rebuilding for two more years and then the Devils will be a real force. 2 more years of top 10 picks and maybe even top 5 picks is not something you give up just to prematurely end the rebuild. Holtz also is a good player that can develop into a solid top six winger. It just feels like a bad investment especially into a guy who’s gonna dip when UFA comes and sign with the highest bidder.

Trust me, missing on first round picks is the Devils specialty. I do agree somewhat, I'm fine with picking top 5 the next two years in two great drafts but at what point does Hughes' growth and development take a hit? It also seems like they're trying to improve quickly with additions of two top 4 defenceman, a top 6 winger and backup goalie. I'd be surprised if they were a total bottom feeder like years past for the next two seasons.

figured Devils won't be in cap trouble for a long time, Subban off the books after next year and Hughes isn't likely to get a massive deal coming off his ELC. 4 years is survivable to add a talent like that I think.

Hughes can have a monster year next year and may command something close to the Nico deal and then they would have to re-sign bratt and zacha as well. I don't think that Kaprizov has had enough of a sample size to command 10 million a year. I'd rather let Minnesota deal with it and see what our wing prospects can do next to Nico and Hughes
