But in reality TDA was a value play. Dundon willing to bet on the talent at such a low cap hit and that RBA will keep him in check. At 7m even tho Kane is effective on the ice I think the risk is too high even for Dundon.

Now if SJS bought Kane out for whatever reason and the league didn’t suspend or expel him, I think Dundon might offer a cheap deal to him under the same notion.

If Kane didn't have so much controversy surrounding his career then he'd actually be regarded as a near-elite level LW. Unfortunately, it seems that he can only go a year or two without being involved in something less than desirable.

If we were to take on Kane, SJ would have to fork over a bit more to incentivize the Canes to do that. At least 1 1st round pick, but for my money, and probably for Dundon’s as well, you can make it 2 1sts with retention. No one can be sure if Kane put his best effort in for all the games he has played in, whereas someone like Forsberg, who would probably be a way better option, we know that he at the very least tries for each and every game.

If SJ is to move Kane, 50% retention will be involved, but that would not be as much of a problem compared to the doubt surrounding his amount of effort for each game. That is what will make every single other GM hesitant to trade for him.
