Kings don’t need another goalie and MIN doesn’t make sense for Pettersson

Here's what I'll say regarding the Khudobin trade

1) He's 35, so despite him being ok last year, another year is going to sink in and age will hit.
2) Even if he's still better than Jarry at this moment, it's not by much and doesn't move the needle enough IMO to part with a 2nd.
3) Hextall has repeatedly said he's not moving the Pens' 1st or 2nd picks anymore, possibly their better prospects in the right deal.

Yeah, if LA bought Quick out I'd say DeSmith might make sense. LA is clearly trying to fight for playoff spot this year and DeSmith is a very good backup.

I don't know that Pettersson is completely wrong for MIN. They're thin on the LD side outside of Brodin. They don't have any LD prospects that I see making a shot anytime soon, signed Merril as depth and Gogo for only one year. Does he make complete sense? Not at the moment, but he'd be a good long-term move.

Y'all could literally give us a 4th Round Pick & I'd take it.

If the Pens can off-set by moving someone else out I'd think it would work, but again, I don't know that he moves the needle enough to bother at this point. He's been solid, but he really wasn't any better than what we have this last season. I'm not sure if that's due to age or because of a weird season.

IMO unless the Pens can make a clear upgrade it doesn't pay to give up anything just to make a change.

Thanks for the relevant feedback. I wiil try to explain you my thinking. (sorry for the english, it's not my current language)
1) We need a goalie who can play playoffs games, because we have seen this year that Jarry is not yet able to. Khudobin was one of the best stars's player in their SCF run, and that was only one year ago !
2) With Khudobin, Jarry can play half of game next season. That will be good for Jarry's developement because he will learn with a veteran goalie. That will be equally good for Khudobin because as you said. he's 35 and play half of game in a season won't be too hard.
3) At this offseason's moment, many have already their goalies's tandem. So with our small cap space and not many other option in the market, we must not miss Khudobin ! If not, what other goalie ?
4) About Athanasiou, i don't see the remplacement of McCann, I think Rodrigues haven't a top 9 forward level, and ZAR and Blueger are better in 4st line / box play. So we need one ! I think Athanasiou have the level for a cheap salary, but it is necessary to put the price. LA is in a rebuilding, so they need prospect for a realistic trade. Legare is a good prospect, but we are in win now mode ! because the end of 87/71/58 era approach ...

I just don’t see LA buying Quick out at this point. The window is closed for this season anyways so it’s a moot point, but maybe for next season or they could dump him with a pick if needed. They probably think he’ll be fine in a backup role with an improved team tho so idk how necessary or likely it would be even next year.

My perspective on the MP deal is, while it could make sense long term as a fit, financially I think it would be tough for MIN to do. Either they pay Fiala and KK and their cap situation is really tight for the next 3-4 years in which case I can’t see them being able to afford MP. Or they let those guys walk and essentially go into a mini rebuild until the buyouts are gone where it probably doesn’t make sense to give up a 2nd for MP.

I get all that and Jarry probably could benefit from some veteran presence, so it's not the worst rationale. Unfortunately I just don't think the Pens have any realistic options now that all the decent goalies have snatched up or traded for. They're really stuck at this point and have to hope Jarry learns from his mistakes and gets better.

Athanasiou is a curious case, but I also question how he'll fit in Sully's system since he has no defensive game, but I don't see LA's need for DeSmith right now.

Yeah, MIN's whole situation is so weird. They either stay a team ready to get better or have to re-tool, so I get what you're saying. Guerin is in a funny situation.

As far as LA, yeah, the window is closed. I meant if the HAD bought him out someone like DeSmith would make sense, but chances are if they bought him out they probably would have chased another Vet like Mrazek or Andersen.
