Or you can trick Ottawa into thinking they're giving you Josh Brown, but really get Connor Brown back

You do know that josh brown is a near 28 year old who wouldn't even be good enough to crack the marlies top 9, right?

Marlies Top 9? He is a defenseman... I am fully aware that he isn't the best defenseman out there, but he is huge, has NHL experience and likely a better depth option than both Biega and Dahlström. This is more a camp dump from the Leafs perspective. It is not like they are trying to get J.Brown from Ottawa, the would have to take something back if they move Mikheyev and Engvall to them. I helps Ottawa as it removes a name from their logjam of defenders as well as Mikheyev being able to play on their roster and Engvall having the chance to be a 4th line or depth option with NHL experience. Something Ottawa currently lack.

You are completely disregarding my point about them having to be moved on for cap purposes. Like you said, they are useful, very far from being impossible to replace. Amadio, Kämpf and Brooks, Semyonov are guys that would replace them.

They dont need to move them for cap purposes, especially both. And if they did they wouldn't want a bad defender that they have no use for back. Which is my point

They definitely have use for him. He was a solid 3rd pairing guy for Florida when he was there. Nothing special just solid and someone that can kill penalties. Last year in Ottawa was obviously tough for him. That also has little bit to do with the team he is playing on. To suggest that he is bad defender because of one bad year in Ottawa is being ignorant. Players can improve when they move and get to a new situation. Brown's physical presence is something they currently lack depth wise and only Dahlström really has that, but I think anyone would rather have Brown over Dahlström for depth. They definitely need to move at least one of them in order to be able to have a 22 man roster. If they move both, which they can afford due to signing a bunch of depth guys, they would be able to have full flexibility with a 23 man roster as well as some cap space that would accrue over time which at the TDL could make it work for adding someone else to the team.

Except that he wasn't a solid 3rd pairing guy. He was a guy on the third pairing that got his teeth kicked in at evens and on the pk. Hes just bad and the leafs have no need for bad hockey players no matter how tall or how much other teams used him

More fascination with other teams bottoms enders being so much better than the Leafs. Why trade Dermot for nothing just to get AHLer Brown to get replace him?

I suggest that you go back and look at his time in Florida individually. He got rewarded a $1.2M contract for his play. NHL teams don't just base their opinion on one player having a bad season. Obviously Ottawa was trading for something they believed could work when they as a rebuilding team gave up a 4th round pick instead of signing someone in free agency. It hasn't worked out for him in Ottawa, and that is fine. It happens all the time. That doesn't suggest that he couldn't come to another team and regain form. He would join the team who had the 7th best defense in the league compared to being on the team with the 4th worst.

Strictly cap purposes. Nothing else. Dermott is better.

Bad players get too much money all the time, especially from dale tallon, and you'll notice that the panthers got better and the sens worse when brown came over. It's not a coincidence.
He's just a bad player on a bad team now instead of being a bad player on an ok team
