Description
As an outsider to the Wild, I really don’t get why they won’t pay Kaprizov. He near singlehandedly brought them back to relevancy as a rookie. His ceiling is limitless. He should be the kind of guy to get Eichel-level money, as he’ll be your cornerstone for years to come. Please let me know if there’s some issues going on behind the scenes, because otherwise this has gone on far too long.

The forward signings can be any depth guys.

I get that you want him on your team long term but that's Kaprizov's issue, he's not ready for a big deal like that yet. There's a reason why he's rejected seven and eight year deals, it's way more likely he'll end up with something in the 3-5 year range

We would be more than willing to pay Kaprizov. And I mean a lot. The problem is the term. Kaprizov wants 3 years so he could cash in the UFA market as soon as possible (this doesn't implicate he doesn't want to stay with the Wild, it means he wants to get two big paydays in his career, should that be in Minnesota or somewhere else) and the Wild obviously want to sign their first-ever superstar for as long as possible. Basically, Kaprizov's agent wants Minnesota to compensate the big-buck years he wasted playing in the KHL and Guerin is buying none of that BS.

He wants 11 mil and more. Wild beat writer said he's asking for outrageous money on short term contract. Kaprizov is being a clown, and seems like he's not going to get any credit toward free agency if he doesn't play on wild next year meaning wild still has his right for 3 years

I honestly think Eichel for Kaprizov + is going to happen any day now. They're the same age and assuming Eichel's injury isn't a concern moving forward, they're both star players and have a few years of growth ahead of them. Kaprizov won't commit long term to the Wild which is probably twice as frustrating for the fan base when the Wild went ahead to create cap space for the next 2 seasons with the Parise & Suter buy outs. Eichel is done with the Sabres and they currently have more cap space than any other team to entice Kaprizov to stay which makes them an ideal fit IMO

Yeah no. Wild have zero interest or need for eichel without kaprizov. Also he's willing to commit long term that isn't the problem. Don't understand why other teams fans keep saying this.

5 and 6. the counters for 4 and 6 years, as I understand it, were in the wild's opinion outrageous

That would be a lose-lose situation. The point of getting Eichel would be to get Kirill his center, not ship him away. The Wild would be in cap hell with Eichel, and the fans would riot if we traded away a superstar that the fanbase waited for 6 years to come over. And if Kaprizov doesn't want to sign long-term in Minny, I doubt he'd sign with Buffalo at all. Might as well sign in the KHL, rather than play for the most garbage organization in the league. So the Sabres would essentially get nothing for trading their 1C.

I think anyone who claims that a team has zero interest or need for Jack Eichel, don't understand how good Jack Eichel is

Wild don't have a need for eichel without kaprizov, and don't understand why you don't understand that? Eichel will ask out also. You are talking about a dude who also needs a serious injury. It's been made clear wild are only chasing eichel to appease kaprizov

There’s simply no point in getting Eichel if we trade Kaprizov. Has nothing to do with not understanding Eichels skill level.

There's simply no point in acquiring a top 10 player in the world (at worst) who's under contract for the next 5 years. No point at all

Not at the expense of Kaprizov and given our cap situation. As good as Eichel is, he doesn’t propel us into contender status without Kaprizov also on the team. We also have 15M in dead cap looming. Why bring on Eichel only to battle for a wild card spot?

You can defend your point all you want, but there’s not a MN fan on here that agrees with you, so I’d hope that’s somewhat telling.

Kaprizov was offered $9M on a 8 year contract, what in the world makes anyone think he'd accept 7x$10M?

It's a year shorter and a million more than what he was already offered. It's as if people don't understand that he's going to make less on a shorter contract, not more. Contract projections at Evolving-Hockey put him at $6.5-7M on a 1-3 year contract, $7-7.5M on a 4-6 year contract, and $8-8.5M on a 7-8 year contract.

Boy, Guerin sure is being cheap offering Kaprizov an above market max term contract when the guy has played less than 60 career games in the NHL so far.
