By not giving up Smith in the deal, we now have L Hughes Smith and Q Hughes as defensive liabilities (hopefully L Hughes will get better overtime, but there isn’t much defense on that left side). Instead ur giving up a goal scorer and the big thing that the devils lack is goal scoring. Also McLeod is great in the circle and I don’t think Zacha knows exactly what a faceoff is. Severson should be ahead of Subban.

Canucks laugh and hang up. Replace the second with a first and replace Siegenthaler and Bahl with Ty Smith and you got a deal. Devils fans are so delusional!

Its fun, getting all three brothers under one roof, but I don't think it really helps either team.

The gap between Ty Smith and Quinn Hughes isn't much.
Certainly not Holtz, Bahl, 1st.

Would be closer to even swap

You guys act like Quinn is just a top 4 d man. Ty Smith is unproven to be even close to Quinn’s potential. Canucks are not sellers. Canucks would want smith a guy who can be the a 2nd d man behind OEL and that guy is not Bahl.

Hughes has a bad 20 games and suddenly he's comparable to a guy with a career-high of 20 points gtfo

Smith is unproven?

He was the last cut for a playoff team as 18-year-old in 2018
He won WHL d-man of the year in 2019
He won it again in 2020
Then was top NHL rookie d-man in 2021

What else does he have to do to 'prove it'?
He is a stud.

I’m just sick and tired of devils fans on all platforms thinking they can get Hughes for basically nothing just cause his bros are on the team.

Smith was paired with Severson Hughes was paired with Benn for most of the year. Notice how nobody said anything about Hughes's defensive ability when he was paired with Tanev. And points are everything when you're talking about an offensive dman

Are you quoting a rookie season as a 'career high'?

Lol. Guess its all down hill from here.

No one said that

Canucks fans just overvalue him like crazy

Why would the Devils give up Smith, young top 4 dman that looked really good In the NHL, Holtz, elite sniper prospect the Devils need, and more

Think about the trade both ways, not just crying that it's not enough for Quinn

Canucks fans are the ones that are delusional

He is unproven to be Quinn’s level. Sure he’s a stud but he’s no Quinn Hughes yet.

Smith was also paired with Subban, Bahl, Murray and other defensemen, not only Severson. Smith still played good Defensively when paired with Subban

Considering the guy you're comparing him to put up 53 points as a rookie while also being a point per game in the playoffs. Ya I could give a damn about his 20 points as a rookie

He doesn't provide the offense that Quinn does yet.
But their value is quite similar.

Also, Devils played in hardest division last year.
Hughes played in the North.

Quinn has tons of potential. If he turns his defensive game around then he can be a top 5 d man in the league. If you want to get a guy with that potential then yes you have to pay that much. Most importantly Canucks are not sellers so if your going to get him it’s gonna have to be a damn good deal.

"He started the season playing next to Matt Tennyson. He was decent, but his defensive numbers were still bad. However, when he was paired with Damon Severson, everything changed." That's a direct quote from this article: https://pucksandpitchforks.com/2021/02/23/new-jersey-devils-ty-smith-great-bet-calder-trophy/

These devils fans just think they can undervalue anyone just cause they want him. They really think that Ty smith is just as good of an offensive d man as Hughes. It’s hilarious how many casuals are from New Jersey are just wanting the Hughes brothers together.

Their 5v5 scoring rates are actually quite similar.

Also, you are comparing a shortened season to a full season.
Its like me saying Quinn scored 3 points in his first NHL season.
