Why would Columbus even consider this

Very easy pass for Ottawa. Watson and Kassian fill the same role, but Watson is younger and only under contract at 1.5×2 vs 3.2×3.

The first is to dump koskonen. Elvis isn’t being moved at all most likely but if he is and he’s half retained, then your giving another first and prospect.

Sorry we don’t want to move him. If you want him meet our price.

an expiring deal for a goalie who will leave next year? a 1st and 2nd is more than enough. Keumper went for a 1st and a prospect and he is way better than elvis.

So because they are "tanking" they move their up and coming star goalie for a much crappier overpaid and older one and a late 1st? Logic?

The logic being the jackets wont be good for a few years. elvis would be out of his prime. koski isn't the big part of the deal he will go to the KHL next year its the 1st and a 2nd are very valuable. not to mention elvis can literally leave next year for nothing. which wouldn't shock me (see every other good player you have ever had). acquire assets now and trade for a goalie when you team is ready to compete before ruining their confidence

It's simply unrealistic and bad overall for CBJ.

Love the shot that he will leave like everyone else has. Yet he has literally said this summer that he “loves this team and this city” while in tears he truly loves it here. He may be one of the few.
I know it doesn’t fit the “narrative “but there is more to it than what’s on the surface.

Yeah man, you way off on both trades.

The premium for the privilege of buying out Kassian in a year is not going to get you even Watson, TBH.

Elvis has given all indications he wants to sign; the team has made it known they want to sort out their goaltending situation first (i.e. trade Korpi). He's 27, not 37; CBJ can probably get 5-6 good years out of him, likely at a reasonable cap hit, as well. Even if the next two are with the team tanking, its not worth it for a hefty cap dump and a late 1st/ 2nd. Particularly if you want retention.

Plus, need some cover for Tarasov in the short term.

I keep saying, EDM fans want to keep diverting to Elvis instead of Korpi, when isn't the problem right now that your team needs post-season help? And getting a guy with a 1.90 GAA, inclusive of five games (well, six when you count the marathon Game 1) against the future Cup winners is a hell of a get. Small sample size, sure, but compared to what you currently have, three goaltenders who have underperformed and whose average age is 35, I really think its a step up.

Not saying "1st rounder and more" step up, but a definite step up.

It's a college football crazed town and it's a relatively small city compared to most NHL destinations but they have a good GM and I feel like if guys want a lower public profile, they can enjoy that there. Same reason some players love SJ, media is tiny, city is chill and they can go out without being marauded by psycho autograph hoarders.
