Rielly Resigns

Created by: EEEEE15
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 26, 2021
Published: Aug. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This isn't meant to be that realistic. Just the layout I think the Leafs should go with.

1st Line: This hopefully carries on the chemistry that they develop from the previous season.
2nd Line: Same applies to this as the 1st line.
3rd Line: This could be a shutdown line. Kampf as the shutdown center, Bunting playing like a cheaper version of Hyman and Spezza being a vet and being responsible with the puck.
4th Line: This would be an insanely fun line to watch if all three can transition to NHL hockey by this point, which I doubt. These three have already shown the insane chemistry they have when they lit up the OHL playing for the Petes. Chemistry isn't the issue as much as transition to the NHL is.

1st Pairing: Rielly and Brodie stay together with the chemistry they have.
2nd Pairing: Muzzin and Holl also stay together.
3rd Pairing: Sandin and Liljegren play on this pairing but if it struggles you have a veteran that can slot in. I picked Staal but it can be any Bogosian like veteran who's solid and takes league minimum.

Campbell and Mrazek are our tandem for at least the next 3 seasons.

Dubas has repeatedly said that he believes in the core, so if there are no huge core changes, this is what I hope.

Lemme know your thoughts in the comments.

We hear reports of that all the time and is seldom happens, at least with bigger players. It's rumored Malkin will take a discount and possibly Letang, but I'm not even banking on that until it happens lol

I'm certainly not a big Reilly fan by Leaf standards. Some team will overpay him because of his offensive totals. Reilly is in a different situation than LeTang or Malkin. Those guys have made big money in their career and likely will only get shot term deals, so it's not a really big $$$ amount in their total wealth if they take a hometown discount. If Reilly makes 2m a year more elsewhere for 7 years...you think he has to take it.
Leafs are adequate at LHD even without Reilly. Gotta spend the cap elsewhere. But like so many Leaf posts, Leafs fans think a 21 man right will do shakes head

Two guys the just protected in the expansion draft. Kerfoot maybe, but Holl is going nowhere. I would be very hesitant on signing a 28 year old offensive defenceman to 7+ mil for 7 years. If his skating goes that contract will age terribly. The only way a Morgan extension makes sense is if a larger contract is moved out

Holl is nothing without Muzzin. That's been proven time and time again. If Liljegren takes a step forward this season, Holl is absolutely expendable.

Preaching to the converted, I would have gone 7-3-1 and exposed Holl. I completely agree, he is terrible without Muzzin. But Dubas/Keefe and co think differently

I think they think that cause he's their best right handed option on the back end. If Liljegren steps up, he can take that spot and it makes Holl more than expendable and if they need the cap space, they'll move him.

A fair trade in my eyes going off what his value was before and now is a 1st a top prospect and a 3rd. Jones got 2 1sts a top RD prospect and a 2nd for Jones and the 32nd pick. If you take the 2nd round and 32 overall since they were acutally close in pick number I think it's 2 first and a top Rd prospect

So a 1st and top prospect and 3rd if it's trade for futures only isn't far fetched imo jones gets more because of being a RD

Of course with extension etc

Yeah see what I've noticed on this website is the rielly trade proposals are either insanely overvalued or undervalued. Not many reasonable trades here. I think what you're saying is pretty reasonable.

It's mainly because 1 people overvalued their prospects (we all do even me) and most trades aren't for futures. I don't really know what a Rielly trade would be if a roster players are involved
