Yamamoto 3 year contract

Created by: CD282
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 31, 2021
Published: Aug. 31, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Most of the talk thus far has been for a 2-year deal similar to the Bear contract from last summer. But now I'm wondering - could the Oilers get 3 years by splitting the difference between the Tolvanen and the Dube contracts? It certainly would give them some cost-certainty going forward. They could go as high as $2.4M if necessary, but I know they want to leave some space in case of injuries.

I think he'll get pretty close to what Dube got on a 3 year deal. Can't see an AAV under 2million unless its a 1 or 2 year deal

Ya the Dube contract is going to be tough to argue against. Yamamoto has produced more points and their advanced stats are almost identical. I would think the best cap management for the oilers would be to do a 2 year bridge at 2ish. That would align the Sekera & Lucic dead cap with his resigning, giving them 4.25M to do a long term deal (barring any massive scoring explosion).

While I hope it's going to be a 4-year deal, I see 3-year deal being the realistic term for Yamamoto

Agree... if we want him at $2mil or slightly under the term is 2 years tops. A 3rd year at the list puts him around Dube, Yam won't get more than 3 years as he'll want to bet on himself that he's worth more than what the Oilers would offer based on his career to date.

I'd be happy with a 3 x $2.3M deal, if that's what it takes. I was kind of hoping the Tolvanen contract would put a little downward pressure on the ask... I still think a 2-year deal should come in slightly under $2M.
