He’s skating with the team at captains practice and not at the dev camp so I think they have plans he makes the team, him forcing himself onto the roster is probably their hopes

I really hope they give him a legit shot at the start of the year because it’s not like they don’t know what Helm will bring to the table. Unfortunately I don’t see Bednar giving either him or Bowers much burn, I hope I’m wrong though.

Kaut was apparently not in shape or something along those lines last camp and he had a long road ahead of him last ssaln.

If he comes into camp mentally and physically ready to compete, he will be hard to turn down on the roster, he fills such a need

Bednar has said positive things about Kaut and Bowers in the past. It is not entirely up to him who is on the roster. But I do agree it would be nice to see Kaut and maybe even Bowers get a real shot. Helm almost seems like a lock considering he's on a one-way deal but maybe the younger guys outplay him and he's the 13th forward.

To me that says this is make or break for him - they don't think of him as a prospect anymore and need him to make the team.

I wouldnt say its make it or break it for him yet, he has 2 years of his ELC remaining and is waiver except. He just needs to come to camp and do the things and work on the things that the Team and Bednar wanted him to focus on, if hes building his game to their likings thats more important than making it out of camp this year.

I do agree that he has to show he's done what they ask of him. I say "make or break" because he's not a super young guy anymore but maybe it's not quite to that point yet. If he doesn't make the team, there will be injuries and maybe he's at the top of the list for a call-up. But if they call up Megna or Matteau or some other career AHL scrub, that's a really bad sign. Unfortunately, those sorts of decisions aren't completely Bednar's call and there seem to be some Avs' brass who give undue deference to vets over talented young guys.

Kaut is only 21, he’s still very young. We don’t realize he was 18 when he joined the eagles, so it just seems lot he should be older.

The roster numbers game will squeeze him out before he ages out

I recall bednar commenting on his consistentcy. If he brings a base line level every night that bednar is comfortable with, then can’t see how he’s not on the roster. Such a coach cliche but it’s true. Coaches know what they get in the megna type call ups. No surprises but limited ability.

I’m still a big believer in kaut. I think get makes his impacts on this team mid season after a call up and never looks back

I sure hope you're correct - it would be great to see him become a solid middle-six guy; if he can play with good players, he'll do well.
