Don't you think Hughes will see that Dahlin contract, but turn around and ask for $8M 3 years? .54 ppg player vs .75 ppg I don't think VAN is really is that much cap trouble like people are suggesting. Just talking about the Hughes contract.

I agree, if that's the case then there will be a bit of navigation on the roster, maybe only 22 man. but it is still possible

also I have Myers on TS from a previous thought I had, if schenn goes to minors and Myers is on the squad there just over 1.5 mil in space

If Pettersson used Kaprizov as a comparison he would be selling himself short. Center vs Winger. 182 games played vs 62 games played. 22 years old vs 24 years old

Unfortunately Dmen seem to get paid on points instead of overall play. Also they get paid to where they drafted, three years previously. Hughes had lots of help on the Vancouver defence and team compared to Dahlin's Sabres. Who is the better Dman? Brady Tkachuk was the 78th highest scoring forward last season. Shouldn't he paid as such. but it appears he wants top 20 $$$$. There doesn't seem to a solution to what players deserve to be paid. What are the comparables?

I hear you and ultimately I do agree with 99.999% of it. TRUE, Buffalo didn't provide Dahlin much support at all. TRUE, point shouldn't be the absolute deciding factor in a contract. But also TRUE, like you said it is a big factor. This is actually why I liked Stan's moves to extend Murphy and sign McCabe for the contracts that he did. Defensive Dmen right now are very under valued.

As a side, I'm not 100% sure I'd say VAN provided a lot of help on defense. IMO, they're still a bubble playoff team because 5 teams form the Central will make the playoffs IMO. The also didn't make it last year in the statistically easiest division (the only division where more than 50% of it made the playoffs. I understand it's a country/COVID thing, but the reason why...valid as it certainly was...doesn't change that only 3 teams missed the playoffs)

Agree with you. IMO Vancouver isn't that good, and they lost Dman Schmidt for nothing for cap reasons. Poor teams should not be at the cap. You're right the Central should get five playoff spots, the Pacific besides Vegas are middling at best. Just a note on the Canadian division, Leafs and Winnipeg were good, and Montreal a playoff surprise. But Ottawa in the second half were good. I don't expect them to make the playoffs, but I like their direction.
