Gurianov is probably the best example I can come up with of an offensive juggernaut that is crippled by the system he plays in. Gurianov along side guys like Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Oshie, or Mantha turns into a player that could legitimately score 30-35 goals a season.
In Dallas, Bowness keeps trying to turn him into a two-way forward & it's simply not his playstyle. He's the kind of player that's going to score & put up points, but you'll have to live with his defensive deficiencies. Think Leon Draisaitl, but not as talented offensively. Similar play style.
In a perfect world, Bowness is out after this season & Dallas hires a coach from this century with a mindset for today's NHL. But IF the Stars were to move him, simply due to his age & potential, anyone is going to have to overpay for him. I'm not saying Ovechkin, a 1st, McMichael, and Backstrom or anything stupid like that, but he's probably going for a late 1st and the lesser of Alexeyev, Lapierre, or McMichael.
