They accept if Koskinen isn't included. Gibson and Stolarz are better than him as of now. Maybe this happens if Gibson finally gets traded to Pittsburgh!

Koskinen expires at the end of the year so all they have to do is carry him as a 3rd string until then end of the year to make the cap work

In this scenario Anaheim actually saves about 700K in real dollars.

Yes, this seems like a fair amount for buffalo to facilitate. I have seen buffalo retaining 10 million for a pair of thirds, which, i mean of course no.

That's WAY too much draft capital for a meh defender and a backup goalie.

They should jump at it. Manson's last good year was 2017-18, he's been riding that reputation ever since.

Different teams, different trends. Edmonton is not an awful team, so Koskinen playing close to Gibson's level last season is no indicator of who is better. Anaheim was god awful last year, this is coming from a Canucks fan, so believe me - we specialize in identifying god awful. Gibson's career sv% is .917 compared to mikko's .907, this comes in 3x the amount of games as Koskinen, meaning that Gibson's quality is proven and warrants the proper respect. Gibson would command an insane return if traded to the right team (Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Edmonton, etc.) Trust me, it'll happen

Because this is a deadline deal, I think that we would take this even without the retention. Koskinen gets an early start to his summer and we get a first-round pick.

You are the only human being in North America that thinks Koskinen = Gibson.

You should actually read the link I posted. When you do you'll see that it's TWO years data (not one) and Koskinen faced more shots and 5v5 shots than Gibson did (contrary to your opinion that Anaheim is awful and Edmonton is not). Also, you'd see that career numbers mean nothing because Gibson got injured in the 2018-19 season and has never recovered. Are you also of the opinion that Duncan Keith is a top-5 defenseman in the NHL? Because his career numbers indicate that he is.

Try reading what I wrote and using logic.

I'm fine with that. Let's see if Gibson can recover and post better numbers than Koskinen this year. If pre-season is any indication, it's not looking good.

And my prediction is that Gibson will easily surpass Koskinen's figures right up until the Oilers put him on waivers.

Early impressions on Koskinen are that he is improved from Last year. I am guessing that the coaching edmonton found for offseason training on Goaltenders is something different from what they had before. Mike smith found something last offseason and I think Koskinen and skinner found the same thing now.

I don’t know who else might be available for a right shot defender who plays a playoff style. I’m also not sure how they limbo under the cap next year to be able to get a tender that will get you a .910 in 22-23 and also goes away when their cap opens up the following year so they can get someone more substantial.

Holland has been very clear that he sees this team as a contender for many years to come. The easiest way to remain a contender is to have cheap talent coming up on ELC's - Bouchard, Holloway, Lavoie etc. Giving away four high picks for short-term additions who don't push the needle isn't the way to do that.
