As a Canucks fan, I would love for this to happen if Hammer decides to opt out. I also don't think it's unrealistic for the Islanders should Noah Dobson take a step and earn the 2nd pair spot on the Isles right side. If that happened, don't think Mayfield would appreciate being on the third pair, he's too good to play that far down the lineup. The Islanders still have guys like Chara, Sebastian Aho, and Michael Dal Colle on their roster

Not to mention Mayfield's cap hit is a huge bargain, you don't get that many players signing 4-5 year deals for an AAV that's under 2M. Mayfield would definitely help out Vancouver's defense and I can see a scenario where Lou and the Islanders don't miss him too much for the right return

I am having trouble with deciding Mayfield’s worth to the Islanders thou... maybe a 3rd and a 4th round pick is to low? And getting 500 000-750 000 closer to being cap compliant (the have to replace him with another defenseman) maybe isn’t enough of a win for the Islanders? The Canucks would be the winner in my pruposed trade.

For all the reasons you expressed, Lou will get a better offer than what was proposed.

You are probably right, I think I'd be comfortable with parting ways with a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, and a decent roster player at most to acquire Scott Mayfield. I did think this trade was low-balling Mayfield a bit, but not by a significant amount, as Mayfield isn't a top-pairing defenseman and he doesn't offer anything much offensively. He's just a reliable stay-at home physical defenseman

What do you guys think the Islanders would settle for in a Mayfield trade?

Would they go for: 4th round pick 2022 and 2nd round pick 2023? What if the deal was sweetened with prospect Joni Jurmo (3rd round pick 2020)?

Bare in mind that Mayfield will be UFA in two seasons.

Yes, somewhere in that ball park. Frankly however, I'm not sure how much value Joni Jurmo has as a prospect. He doesn't really get talked about in Canucks media or journalism, and as a Canucks fan, I haven't heard any reports on him to make a tangible impression on me

Haven’t heard much about Joni Jurmo either, but he seems to be of to a good start in the Finnish leauge... 4 points in 7 games and he is only 19.

Okay, well that is something to go off of. It doesn't sound like the Canucks are looking at him as a trade weapon, so that maybe is a good sign. It's great whenever a player drafted after the first round can be an impact player, even to a limited extent

LOL....Sorry Mayfield isn't going anywhere. Especially for a horrible return.

Dude, don't expect us non-Islanders fans to necessarily share the same opinions on the value of your mid-tier players. Mayfield is NOT a top pairing defenseman. He is at best a second pairing defenseman, and even then, his versatility is limited. He's pretty good in the defensive zone, but mostly just brings physicality
