I think this is fair but Im a pens fan. Would EDM add Yamamoto? Yamamoto, Holloway, and 2nd for Rust and ZAR

I would say One of Puljujärvi/Yamamoto + Holloway + 2nd for Rust (half retained) + ZAR. And idk if I'm comfortable with that either, but EDM fan might not do this and i ain't trying to get bombed at

Deadline return on solid player like that is typically a 1st+3rd. I can't think of many examples that return more for a rental, let alone give up a 1st (Holloway), 2nd, and young roster player who has already proven to be a good solid NHLer. ZAR is fine, but he's also just a bottom 6 rental.

Not a chance. Imagine giving up your top prospect, 2nd, another recent 1st rounder (either Poolparty or Yams) for a couple of guys that are going to play less than 30 games with your team. That's extremely poor asset management.

Nope nope nope nope. Puljuu and yamo are untouchable and are two of our top 6 wingers and puljuu is already better than rust anyways

Oilers definitely aren't throwing Holloway away on a rental. The Oilers weakness is on the back-end, trading your top forward prospect for a couple forward rentals isn't a great idea. Koskinen for Greiss is a pretty lateral move. Throwing a lot of picks around here for an overall marginal improvement of the team. If the Oilers are going to be making big moves, it will be to upgrade the D which will be difficult to do with Barrie and Ceci getting term on their contracts in the summer.

Rust trade aside, as much as I would love that trade for Detroit, unless koskinen drops off and Greiss has a really good season I don't see that happening.

Rust is a ghost defensively, puljuu has top 5 defensive upside, is way faster, way younger ,bigger, and quite frankly better.
He may have not hit 30 points yet but he is 23... this year he will put up north of 60 easily probably around 30 goals

Thats fine, Rust will just hit 80 points like he was supposed to before Covid. Rust will also hit at least 35 goals.

Yeah, but they can't really afford a Rust extension. His 72 pts/82 game pace over the past couple of years should push him into the $5.5-6.5 mil per year range (if not higher). Currently, with 14 players signed (not including Rust), they've got $12ish mil for next offseason. Assuming a goaltending upgrade ($4-5 mil), a raise for either Poolparty or Yams ($2-3 mil), that's $13ish mil spent (at cap or above), with only 17 players signed.

He's definitely being overrated if we're talking about adding about adding Yamamoto or Poolparty to the trade. Guy is really good offensively (72 pt pace over 82 game season) over the past two years, but selling the farm for 6 weeks of a rental that you can't really afford to extend is a bad, bad, bad move.

In 2016-17 you mean. Cause he was headed for 45 points in 17-18 if he playedd the full season
