Swap out the 4th round pick from Tampa for the 3rd round pick from Anaheim.

And then it's a deal smile

Two thirds for a fringe rental 3rd C who’s not even that big of an upgrade on Evans

Montreal is asking Ottawa for 50% retention.

If there's no retention, then it's just one third round pick.

I forgot that real money matters for some teams. If we postpone the deal to the deadline, does one 3rd work?

If it's Anaheim's 3rd round pick for 2022 going to Ottawa instead of Montreal's, then it's something worth considering IMO.

So maybe smile

So think logically. If Montreal just gave a 3 year extension at $1.7 Million per season, it is not to play on 4th line. Dom sees what I see, Jake will be just fine as the 3rd line C, plus he will have more offensive wingers to distribute the biscuit! So Habs have no need of Tierney that is currently sitting as the 4th line C in Ottawa!

I see no issue with paying a 4C $1.7 million. Plus the point of adding Tierney is upgrading Paquette, not Evans. That way the 4th line is as good as a good 2 way 3rd line, and we have more offensive skill to play with Gally and Hoffman on the 3rd line.
