Literally the same contract.

"How on earth does Drury convince Fox to sign that?"

Right, but where did i say fox wasn’t worth 8 years?

I didn’t think the Bruins were going to be able to get mcavoy at 8x9.5, I thought he and fox were both coming in at around 8x11. If you continue reading beyond the post that you just referenced and misunderstood you’ll see a very logical and cohesive argument as to why makar isn’t a comparable. Good news is, now fox has one, and it’s mcavoy. I guess taxes come into play a little bit here, so Fox might want a bit more, but then desire to be in New York probably offsets that. 9.5x8 seems a lot more reasonable for Fox this morning than it did yesterday.

without reading that entire thread. im not sure the reigning norris trophy winner is taking discounts right now. its tough to comp these mega stars because they arent one in the same. imo you look at like a drew doughty type deal or an erik karlsson type deal in the 11m range. those guys got contracts before the new tv money deals. ESPN is going to exponentially grow the game in the states, as will TNT. They funneled alot of money into it. mcavoy 9.5 coming off a bridge. fox has the hardware, gut reaction says fox gets more than mcavoy if for no other reason than simply the norris and having the point production offensively to back him up.

You literally go on and on and on about "buying out UFA years", etc. McAvoy isn't a direct comparable given his bridge deal prior to the contract. Makar is still the comparable given a long term deal after the ELC. You wanted Fox to sign 4 or 5 years at 9.5mil. Just take the L

That's fine, but the point in hand isn't entirely about dollars, but about term. I'd be totally fine giving Fox an 8x10mil, or even 11mil. However, I think he will follow suit with Makar, etc, and grab the lower amount in 9.5mil

I understand the cap will eventually go up, but current projections from the NHL say it'll be at least another 3 years. They said the next 3 years will only have a 1mil cap raise. Then hopefully it skyrockets after that

No. I didn’t. Can you just go back and read my posts dude. This will make a lot more sense. I suggested that there was a relationship between term, years of ufa bought out, and AAV, because duh. Mcavoy and Fox are the same age, with the same number of rfa years remaining. Makar was younger, with more years of rfa. See how simple that is? It’s all in the other thread, and it would probably save a lot of back and forth if you just went back and read that thoroughly.

it is a little different though makar signs at 22 for a 6 year deal. setting himself up for another big contract down the line. makar is also almost point per game for his career. an 8 year deal for fox puts this as roughly his only big chance to earn a long term contract. 8 year deal ide put higher than 11 simply because of the cost of missing out on another big contract.

I already read it and give exact quotes, and you just say to go read it again... oh well. Jack Edwards would be proud

Again, I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of the statement that now it's acceptable for Fox to take an 8x9.5mil. If that point wasn't made I wouldn't have been commenting

I can understand the logic behind not going for an 8 year deal, but to all of a sudden say now it's fine because of this contract, is silly to me

Well yes, you took what I said and made up some meaning that didn’t exist. If you could find where i said fox didn’t deserve 8 years I’d be really interested in seeing that

How is that hypocritical. I’ve always said I expected mcavoy to come in at 8x11. His contract changed the market, like most big contracts do. You referenced Makar’s contract as one that changed the market. How is this different? Oh other than makar singing at two years younger than fox and mcavoy, and buying out four fewer years of ufa.

For some reason I always expected mcavoy to push for every penny, and for Pastrnak to take a bit of a haircut. Same contract probably works. I’m guessing that this 9.5 represents a new internal cap

I felt the same way about McAvoy pushing for the money. No concrete reason, just a gut feeling I can't explain. He will probably be Boston's best player for most of or all of the duration of this contract so you are right about the "new internal cap". If for some reason one of his teammates gets more that hopefully that means Boston has a new star on their hands.
