Buffalo has to make 1 player room for this trade. Jets trade highest scoring forward for a player who will be the new scoring leader.
Copp pricing himself out and will ask for $5.1mill need cap releif.

I think Buffalo would be looking for younger guys in return, but from Winnipeg's point of view a deal around Scheifele is the only way it works. Of course though, Winnipeg wouldn't consider it until Eichel was back playing again and had proven himself fully recovered with no ill affects from his surgery.

Buffalo would be better served targeting a team that is desperate for a center.

What some people forget with Scheifele you get a proven 30+ regular season goal scorer and a great playoff scorer all this for a low cap hit of $6.1 million for 3 more years. Copp one of the best checkers also adds 15-20 goals for 50 goals added to your team who will make the playoffs in the year of trade. Instant turnaround for Buffalo a club who needs it. All this should be factored in.

Buffalo gladly accepts, especially considering they could move both pieces if they wanted to for more than they’ll get for Eichel.

With that said, Jets easily decline
