Devils players expectation vs reality so far this year

Description
LW: Exceeding expectations

Johnsson - Considering the fact that I would have been willing to trade him for a bag of chips during the off season and now he has 4 goals and 6 points in 7 games, he is preforming pretty well I would say.
Zacha - With how Zacha ended last season, I expected this. But because of most people not expecing Zacha to be this good I put him here. He is our best forward with Hughes out, and has one of the most lethal wrist shots in the league.
Mercer - The guy was drafted 18th in 2020, and now the next year is one of the devils top forwards and is putting himself in contention for the calder.
Bernier - Has been solid every game he has played, is 3-0 with a .923 save %. Once Blackwood is back this is a really good 1a 1b tandem.

C: Meeting Expectations

Hamilton & Graves - Really good D pair, as expected. Both filling their roles perfectly.
Severson - Makes a lot of really good playes and makes a lot of mistakes, typical Severson.
McLeod - He is getting chances, still playing well but the points just are not there. Hes not meant to score a lot anyway, he is great on defense.
Vesey - Has been pretty solid with limited minutes.
Gauthier - An AHL guy playing in the NHL because of the Hughes injury, what more can you expect out of him.

RW: Under preforming

Hischier - Yes he is great defensivley but needs to produce more on offence.
Bratt - Had 0 points in first 5 games. He has begun to pick it up the last 2 games with 3 points but not enough to move him out of this category yet.
Tatar & Sharangovich - Both guys that are supposed to put the puck in the net and are yet to do so in 7 games this year.
Subban - At this point it is pretty expected for this guy to under preform. He has been pretty good the past 2 games but aside from that he just has not been that good.
Smith - 0 points. Points arent everything but he is supposed to produce offence and has not done that.
Siegenthaler - Has done nothing ever since being traded to NJ last year. Has not recorded a point in a devils uniform (15 games).
Wedgewood - Not terrible but not good. WE NEED BLACKWOOD BACK.
Kuokkanen - Simply has not produced.

Scratch: Has not played enough for me to rank

I would like to see more Geertsen, he adds much needed grit with wood out with injury.

IR: Has not played enough due to injury

Hughes was playing so well, was really looking like he was going to break out, but only played 4 periods before getting a dislocated shoulder. Thanks Lauzon.

With many players under preforming, I will definently take this 4-2-1 record. If some guys can pick it up this team can really have a shot at slipping into a wild card spot.

Considering they've already used their 4th string Goalie (twice), and their best player has only played 4 periods this season, 4-2-1 is excellent. But, the schedule has been relatively easy. They've only played 2 playoff teams - WASH & CGY - and lost both convincingly. They're 4-0-1 against teams I expect to miss the playoffs. Also, no team has played fewer games this season, which has helped mitigate the injuries to the goalies. We need Blackie and Bernier 100% as the schedule heats up.

I think McLeod looks terrific... simply by eye test alone he brings so much energy and grit. Skates like a mad man, goes to the net hard, grinds in the corners. He has also put himself in a position to score on many occasions, but couldn't bury it, much like Johnsson last year & many years of Zacha. If he keeps getting to those spaces, the goals will come. His top notch face off numbers have already been mentioned, a God send for a major team weakness last year.

Oddly his possession numbers look awful. I assume this is more a factor of all the Defensive Zone Starts, because it doesn't feel like his line is often getting out shot / HDSC when watching live... but maybe I missing something. I did notice a few bad luck goals against when he stepped on the ice for a change and the opposition rush buried one before they could recover from a choopy line change. Can't fault him for those.

I dont like those possession numbers, they make me feel like I'm missing something, but I like what I see & it seems like Ruff agrees, as he continues to roll him out there in tough spots.
