A deeper, more competitive team

Created by: Edubbnaz
Team: 2017-18 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2017
Published: Mar. 14, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Two trades to help rebuild the blue line and free up cap space lomg term. The signings of Parenteau and Sharp are intended to be similar to Thomas Vanek's from this year, one year deals for players that provide some veteran depth in the bottom half of the lineup while also being potential trade pieces at the deadline. They are also intended to try and maximize the usage of Franzen's cap relief when he is put on LTIR.

This roster would provide a lot more depth up front, help to fix the blue line by re-slotting most of the players to positions more conducive to their skills and give the Red Wings a lot more cap flexibility after the season when they have some important signings to make.

Shouldn't the Red Wings be rebuilding instead of acquiring one year of Fowler?

Why would they not re-sign a 26 year old defenseman that they traded for, played on their top pairing and (hopefully) played well there? The Red Wings do not need a complete demolition and rebuild of the roster.

On top of that there is no way they will not look for every way possible to have a competitive team on the ice their first season in LCA.

Fowler has choice of 31 teams to choose from as a UFA. Although Detroit would have a better change than other teams, it's very presumptive to assume, he would resign just because the Wings traded for him.

That 10 million dollar fourth line is why they need a rebuild....

Pretty sure they only make the deal if Fowler agrees to an extension.

You do understand that Fowler is from Detroit right? There's been rumblings that he would love to play for his hometown Red Wings. Though i do agree that if we do get Fowler it probably will be as a UFA for nothing.

I'm all for the Wings signing Fowler and yes I know he from Detroit. But 2017/2018 is kinda lost for the Wings. His presence on the teams doesn't mean much. Wait till the summer of 2018 and see if really wants to be a Wing.
