Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2021
Published: Nov. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Only 10 games in, so lots of time left to assess team needs, but I currently see the Oilers' biggest needs as deepening right wing, and adding a solid LD defensive partner for Barrie on the third pair.
Another need would be 3/4C if Holloway isn't able to take a spot in the new year after coming back from injury and playing in the AHL for a bit.
Goaltending is solid for now, but if it looks shaky down the stretch that would be something else to address.

Other potential LD options:
Robert Hagg
Nick Leddy
Vladislav Gavrikov
Ben Chiarot
Brett Kulak
Nick Holden

Other potential RW options:
Bryan Rust
Connor Brown
Christian Fischer

Goalie options:
Braden Holtby
Thomas Greiss
Tristan Jarry

Cant see Vegas and Oilers trading mid-season when they will be fighting for first. Vegas wont want McNabb going to the Oilers and Edmonton wont want to help Vegas out of their Cap hell.

To bring in a top six forward I think yam has to be included in the trade. Think putting him on the third line just undoes a lot of the identity that line has developed and considering what they do kass is far far better suited for that role. They are the push back line.

I think that Anaheim would (and should) accept that offer.

Its WAY too soon to make the call on RW, Yamamoto has been playing well despite not scoring much. As it stands he has the same number of even strength goals and points as Rackell, so I don't know why you're giving up a king's ransom for a rental who isn't an improvement.

As for LHD, I wouldn't be surprised if Samorukov can be that guy - he's an excellent defender and apparently is dominant in the AHL defensively even though he just got back from injury. I think we'll see him in the NHL before Christmas.

Right now 3C is the team's biggest need, Ryan is ok in that role but they'll need much more than Ryan brings if they want to go deep. That could be Holloway but I don't think Holland will go past the deadline depending on a rookie in that critical spot.

I think Yamamoto is a top-6 forward, not sure why they would move him. It's rare to find top-6 talent for just over $1M and you need those types of value contracts in order to go deep.
