Mmm, I'd say this depends on what direction the Penguins decide to go after this season. Clearly this season, they are looking to make the playoffs with or without Crosby and Malkin. I honestly feel the team is at a crossroads with Malkin's contract coming to an end, I think how well the pens do this season is going to fully dictate which direction the teams moves forward in, whether that is continuing to be competitive or moving towards a rebuild. If the Penguins decide it's in their best interests to start a rebuild, than bringing in Andrew Copp as a long-term piece to their lineup doesn't make much sense, but if the team decides they can be competitive, then maybe Copp makes for a sensible addition. Heck, if the team saw fit to rebuild, they might just try to flip Kapanen for draft picks, so I don't see them trading Kapanen who is a pending RFA for a rental in Andrew Copp and just letting him walk in the off-season

That's not something Winnipeg would consider. Copp is far too important to the Jets to downgrade for a complimentary winger. Plus Copp having the ability to play center is much more valuable. Winnipeg is better off just using Copp as an own rental if he won't re-sign.

i think copp would fit in perfect with the team since both centres are injured they could use someone who is off to a great start and in time maybe they could get their injured players back plus kapanen isn't good year in year out and winnipeg doesnt care to add a winger in their play so i think its a fair deal to be honest its the best they can get right now

It really only works for Winnipeg if they can't come to an agreement on an extension with Copp before the end of the season, and Pittsburgh is looking to make a playoff push when their top 2 centers get back to playing. That said, I still do believe in Kapanen's game and potential, so I think he could benefit from a change of scenery and take another step to his game
