Could Shane Wright could end up in Columbus as part of Seth Jones deal

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 11, 2021

Description
Read the 2022 pick condition on the trade: "*Conditions: If Chicago wins one of the the 2022 draft lotteries, the pick becomes their 2023 1st round pick"

The lottery rules change this year in that the maximum a team can jump is 10 spots. What if Chicago finishes dead last and two teams ranked between #12 and #16 win the lotteries?

Shane Wright --> Columbus

---------

Example

Imagine the final standings (in reverse order for 2022 draft)

1. Chicago
2. Arizona
3. Montreal
4. Ottawa
5. Seattle
6. Dallas
7. Vancouver
8. Pittsburgh
9. Detroit
10. Los Angeles
11. Nashville
12. Colorado
13. Anaheim
14. San Jose
15. Vegas
16. New Jersey

(actual teams don't matter...a lot of these are unlikely as final)

At the Lottery, San Jose wins the first lottery and jumps to pick #4. Colorado wins the second lottery and jumps to pick #2.

Here is the final draft order:

1. Columbus (via Chicago)
2. Arizona (via Colorado)
3. Arizona
4. San Jose
5. Montreal (pick is in top-10, so Arizona gets the Carolina pick)
6. Ottawa
7. Seattle
8. Dallas
9. Vancouver
10. Pittsburgh
11. Detroit
12. Los Angeles
13. Nashville
14. Anaheim
15. Vegas
16. New Jersey

---------

If I am reading that wrong, somebody say so.
But would certainly be an interesting scenario.

"Makes playoffs" vs "Makes Stanley Cup Final"

    NHL.com

Edmonton makes the 2022 Stanley Cup Final and Keith ranks in the top four among Oilers defensemen in time on ice during the first three rounds of the playoffs.

    Capfriendly

The Oilers make it to the 2022 Stanley Cup Finals and Keith is top 4 in playoffs TOI during the first 3 rounds.

It's more likely that the Blackhawks finish tenth and win the lottery.

Look: they started the year with a ceiling of playoff bubble and that's because there is some actual talent on the roster. Now that they have a coach who is at least replacement level, they'll play to their talent level. Probably too late for them to really get back into the playoff conversation, but they're not going to finish as a bottom-5 team and are likely to not even be bottom-10 (unless they decide to start trading everyone).

According to Capfriendly, he needs to be top 4 among everybody.

Even if this happened, we probably wouldn’t spend the pick on Wright, since we already have two elite- to franchise-caliber centers in the pipeline in Sillinger and Johnson. Simon Nemec has been in the top 5 in a lot of mock drafts i’ve seen as of late, and RD is our biggest problem at the moment. A defense lineup of

    Werenski - Nemec
    Gavrikov - Boqvist
    Carlsson- Bean

    Would be lit to see.
