Description
Deals happen in the offseason.

For Bennett deal - Panthers don't have tons of cap space next year and with Barkov, Reinhart and Luostarinen at C, Bennett could be the guy they move, not sure. Armia could be a perfect 3 line winger for that team. Deal is great for MTL but I'm sure FLA fans won't want Armia. WHo knows.

For Strome - I know it was rumored during October that CHI was looking to dump Strome. With a new interim coach, I think Strome's getting in the lineup more often. Maybe they don't want to let him go at season's end. I give Toffoli in the trade because I have eery suspicion that the Hawks might want to move Kane in the offseason. They would get a pretty decent return imo and it would clear tons of cap space. Bringing in a vet like Toffoli ensures they still have top 6 talent to go with their kids.

For Allen - I choose Oilers as I think it could be a good fit for both player and team. But honestly, it could be any other team looking for a great back up/1B at low cost. From a MTL perspective, needed to Allen for cap space. Resigned Monty to give Primeau one more year in Laval. To me, if Primeau dominates the first part of next year in the minors and Monty falters, you make the switch and get Primeau up full time in the bigs learning under Price.

Just trying some different ideas to change dynamic of the team without guttin' everything. You know MTL fans won't like a full rebuild so at least this keeps the team competitive imo.

Anyway, I'm no expert! Hard to predict what will happen until Molson makes a decision on MB's future.

Bennett can play the wings... that deal starts with a 1st at the least. That being said, they do have enough cap space to make it work with Barkov. The difference between Bennett and Armia's cap hit does not justify the difference in skill... it's literally less than 1million dollars haha... and the justification for FLA moving him, is the same reason MTL probably wouldn't want to do this anyway, given Suzuki, Dvorak, and now Strome

I'm aware Bennett plays wing as well. PLA does have other guys (8 to get to 23 man roster) to resign (or move from AHL) next year and only $4.4M of space. I guess they could get rid of Hornqvist or buy him out. Not sure. But thanks for the feedback.

The Panthers swiftly decline. They can move Hornqvist and, after that, they're clear from their cap troubles

Well, your description made it seem like they'd move him because of a sorta center logjam. Either way I think they prefer Bennett over Reinhart at C, but minor details

Hornqvist has an easy buyout price, I made a team just to take a peak and it's doable status quo for them with the buyout. Link if you wanted

The Oilers already have 2 better goalies under contract next year, it's not a fit for Edmonton at all.

I had a look and yes, it does work. However, looking at the current team vs yours, you didn't resign Vatrano or Acciari. And while I don't get to see too many Panthers games, that bottom six isn't great apart from Duclair - which to me shouldn't be on a third line anyway. And also, leaving yourself $180K of cap space on a 22 man roster doesn't seem like good business or roster management. That leaves them with no room for additions at that deadline should they feel the need to upgrade or something. I've never understood why ACGM's posted on here constantly show less than $1M-1.5M of space. You need some cap space for flexibility on your roster. You can (or shouldn't hope) for your highest paid players (or one of them) to go on LTIR the entire year just to have cap space or relief.

And as for the buyout of Hornqvist, while it does work, that $1.7M of dead cap space could be used in a better manner imo. They already have $6.5M of dead space because of Yandle and Darling. Can't see them buyout Hornqvist. And good luck trading him at $5.3M cap hit. You'll need to give a 2nd or 3rd round pick or good prospect to dump him.

i don't agree with that statement at all. Smith and Allen are more similar than you think. Any weakness in Allen's game applies to Smith as well when they are both playing bad or a little off. The only advantages Smith has over Allen is puck moving/handling skills and size. And I don't know enough about Skinner but seeing he only has 7 NHL games played at 23 and with 6 of those coming this year because Smith is injured, leaves me to believe is not ready for the NHL. Otherwise, Holland wouldn't have signed a 39 yr old goalie for two years. But you probably know more about hockey than me.

I'm genuinely confused how you think saving 1million dollars to swap for a considerably worse player is better than what's proposed in that link. Especially since you are saying to not buyout Hornqvist, in which case neither of these ideas work for them lmfao...

You should look around the league, because around 10 teams have less than 1.5million dollars in cap space when healthy...

Last year + this year:
Smith .923
Skinner .917
Allen .906

Holland probably didn't expect to see Skinner this soon, but he's clearly an NHL goalie. He'll be sent back to the AHL when Smith comes back just because he's 23 and waiver exempt, but he's been quality so far.

I could understand if they tried to land a starter if there's some uncertainty surrounding Mike Smith, but there's no reason for Edmonton to be in the market for a backup goalie at all next summer.
