If you think the Oilers are going to improve their GA by trading for another goalie, you haven't been paying attention. It's not a goalie problem, it's a defense problem. THAT's where the money and picks need to be spent. There isn't a goalie available that will improve the GA by himself, not one. The defensive play of the team in front is the only thing that can improve GA. There are countless examples, from Markstrom to MAF to Varlamov, that show this.
The problem in Edmonton is partly personnel and partly systems, but bringing in a different goalie (short of Hellebuyck or Vasilevsky) isn't going to solve the problem.
I have re-stated my points in simplified form. Perhaps you'll have an easier time understanding them in this format.
1. Edmonton's 15-5 record is a result of the performance of their goaltenders supported by outstanding offensive production.
2. GA/G needs to come down
3. Edmonton's special teams have been outstanding.
4. Edmonton's 5vs5 play is a cause for concern.
5. League officiating will likely be more of a frustration, particularly as the schedule gets tougher.
6. Koskinen is playing well, and his results are better than his career averages.
7. Skinner is a rookie and likely to go back to the AHL when Mike Smith returns to play.
8. Smith may,or may not, play well when he returns. His history indicates either is possible.
9. If Smith struggles, the GM may try acquiring another goaltender.
