If Hertl is the heir to the first line center throne, the bruins would be better suited to rebuild.

SJ not using Hertl to move Kane. And Boston should not trade for Kane. Nobody should. Somebody will be dumb enough tho.

I think the trade value is fine but I can see a few problems for Boston going far. Without getting into potential issues with Kane.

- I’m not as high on Hertl as some. I think it remains to be seen if he’s a number one centre on his own. Maybe a 1b that with a strong top six would be fine.
- Hertl is going to be looking for a raise this summer. Probably 7+ million.
- in this trade scenario, Boston would have 13.5 million in cap space with only 16 players under contact. Hertl would probably take over half the cap room. So it would be quite hard to fill other holes. Like another LD
- then Boston wouldn’t have much room for Bergeron’s new contract (if he returns). I rather keep Bergeron personally and look alternative players
- Boston could target Hertl in the summer
