Sorry this one.. at the bottom of one of the paragraphs it says that if teams don't want to go 7/3/1, then they must go 4/4/1 to protect an additional Dman.

That's a quote from their head of hockey operations. Not a quote from the NHL. He could just be assuming no team will go 3/5/1
Otherwise Minny wouldn't have their problems with their Dman.
Well the thing with Minny is they have good forwards too, so it's not like going 3-5 would help really. That'd leave someone like a Niederrieter, Grandlund, Parise, Koivu, or staal exposed.

I've seen so many places say you must go with the 4/4/1 route if not the other one.

I think it has more to do with the abnormality of going 3-5 it just happens to with better for Dallas that way
Hey guys, it says in the "CBA--Expansion Draft FAQ" section of CapFriendly that the second option is 8 skaters and 1 goalie. We should just go with that considering we're using this website as the golden rule as far as player exposure requirements, exemptions, etc.
BOG, this is a settled issue if we're playing by the information on this website, correct? It should be any 8 skaters you want. I was always under this impression, because it gives a team the maximum flexibility in exchange for having two fewer protection spots.

If you can find a direct quote from the NHL I'll believe it but until then I believe its any 8 skaters. Other wise why would they just say 8 skaters (fwd/def) and not 4F/4D like they did for 7F/3D

Until contradictory information is provided I'll vote that any combo of skaters is acceptable.
Isn't the roster freeze in december? and i know i'm not the rule-maker now but i was and when i was i set the date for the expansion draft, and others agreed on those rules. also, in the real NHL you can go 3-5-1 so i'm guessing you can in our game. I'm sure nobody would go 3-5-1 though.

Dallas will be going 3-5-1. The roster freeze is being done now to ensure no shady side deals that screw Vegas over. Otherwise, teams could trade potential Vegas picks away at the last minute and screw everything up.

No the freeze has been established as noon today est for a while now. Also the reason we're discouraging trades is to prevent the urge to make deals and to avoid cluttering the community threads with trade talk during expansion. We want to avoid a scenario where people get discouraged or confused while reading threads because of trade talk.
Is there any chance we could have a thread for potential trade discussions during this trade freeze? We could call it the "Boca Raton GM's Meeting" or something
I just need to have my fix of wheeling and dealing, even if I can't make anything official until May 1st.

I mean we could... but no trade discussion in any of the Master Thread or any expansion thread. It's just unnecessary clutter that makes things more confusing.

I totally get not wanting to clutter up the Master or Expansion threads, and it makes sense. But it would be nice if the rest of us GM's could still bat around trade ideas on a completely separate thread during this trade freeze.
