Rebuild

Description
The Ducks could very well make the playoffs this season, and although they've been playing better than VGK, EDM, and SJ this year I don't think it's realistic for the franchise to try to contend this season. And they can't afford to just walk away from real good assets in Rakell, Manson, and Lindholm, and save maybe Lindholm, their contract windows don't fit the Ducks contending window.

With these trades the Ducks three low first-round picks, while improving their current forward depth and greatly depleting their defensive depth. With this roster they could probably make it into the playoffs as a wild card, however, they would likely be ousted quickly if they faced one of CGY, VGK, MIN, or COL. And they can afford to keep on Monahan and Dadonov's big contracts next season as they likely won't have any big signings increases besides Milano, Lundy, and Liljegren's increases which should be around 9M combined. This leaves them with approximately 6M-7M to sign an LD placeholder until Mahura, Benoit, Zellweger or Thrun become tenable in the top 4. That could very well be Lindholm if he wants to come back to ANA and sign a 2-year deal where he has ample opportunity to rack up some points with a likely improved ANA offense and then cash in with his 30s contract.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Deslauriers, Nicolas
Additional Details:
I am literally basing this trade solely on what I saw on Vegas Armchair GMs. Ducks can afford to have his 5M on the books for next year.
2.
ANA
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. 2022 1st round pick (BOS)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (CGY)
BOS
  1. Rakell, Rickard ($1,894,722 retained)
  2. Steel, Sam
Additional Details:
Rakell is on pace for 30 goals, with an already awesome contract and retention.
3.
ANA
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
I see Monahan as a negative value with the contract, basing this off Flames Armchair GM teams and his obviously bad stats all around for his contract.
CGY
  1. DeBrusk, Jake
  2. Manson, Josh ($2,050,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Manson I think can get a low 1st, especially if Chiarot is commanding that. Manson is much better than Chiarot.

The retention plus Debrusk and taking away Monahan's next year gets the 2nd rounder which will likely be as good as a 3rd round pick.
4.
ANA
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
  2. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Toronto needs to get serious about winning a Cup. This move gives them probably the best defense in the East once Sandin gets back.

Rielly-Brodie
Lindholm-Sandin
Muzzin-Dermott/Holl
TOR
  1. Lindholm, Hampus ($2,600,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Lindholm is a top 2 D man on most teams. I saw lots of Leafs fans asking for Manson, but Lindholm is a lot better than Manson. Manson is a top 4 Dman, but Lindholm can take a really bad defensive partner and make him look good. I'm looking at you Holl, or one of him or Sandin can move to the right side.

I'm aware Liliegren has played well this season, but these are the types of moves that you need to make if you want to win a Cup.

If CGY fans say they don't need Manson because they have Tanev there, I hate to break it to you but he is due for an injury. The guy missed 50% of his games due to injury from 2015-2019. Also, even if he's healthy then you can bench Gudbranson and have incredible D depth for the playoffs with:

Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev/Manson
Valimaki-Tanev/Manson
Zadorov-Gudbranson

Well, I guess it's more of a retool. Management seems to recognize that the Ducks aren't going to be contending for a Cup this year as Solomon said they are still in a rebuild. With valuable core players going to UFA status, this current conglomeration of the Ducks isn't worth trying to keep together given the age of the pieces.

Losing these pieces will definitely hurt them competing this year but it will set them up to really succeed when McTavish, Perrault, Zellweger, Thrun, and Pastujov break into the roster. It's not about just being in the playoffs, it's about setting up a team that can win within Zegras and Drysdale's primes. However, with the pieces still on the team, and players coming back from injury, I think this Ducks roster could still make the playoffs beating out one of SJ, WPG or NSH for a wild card spot.

I think that we'll succeed in re-signing Hampus.

If Monahan is someone we need, andI'm not convinced, I think we'd need to add and I don't think that we'd be getting the draft picks back. I understand that Flames fans are currently down on Monahan, but he's still a serviceable top-6 center.

What would you want to see from Edmonton to land Rakell, Steel and Manson?

22 - 1st, 23 - 1st, Yamo, Kassian, b prospect/Mid round pick? just trying to gauge based off what you are acquiring from CGY/BOS

I saw a bunch of Calgary fans proposing Debrusk for Monahan one for one on here, hence the trade. I don't think Boston makes that trade because of how bad Monahan is compared to his contract and the extra year on it.

Hence why I think this trade works. It's not a trade to acquire Monahan it's a trade to get picks, Monahan is just the body that comes with them.
