Trade Deadline

Created by: maccer25
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2021
Published: Dec. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some ideas for the leafs TDL - players would need to be retained by 50% x2

IT IS CURRENTLY OVER THE CAP DUE TO THE INABILITY TO DOUBLE RETAIN CONTRACTS ON HERE

The team looks pretty good overall - would be nice if they could add a top 6 play driver to play on their third line. similar to what the tried last year, but ultimately added the wrong player

A top 4 RHD would be a luxury at the deadline as well

The trade return for the forward is located with Forsberg and for the defenceman located with Severson - not sure it's ideal but it's probably close in value - swap in and out picks / prospects as you please

Miller seems less likely now that vancouver is heating up brings 2.0 WAR and 2 years left would be tough to retain

Giroux with the way philly is going would be unreal and can play C in case the unspeakable happens again brings 2.4 WAR

Hertl is in the same boat as giroux if the sharks start to falter brings 2.6 WAR

Forsberg is probably last on my wish list, fairly one dimensional but still really good at hockey brings 2.5 WAR

On Defence I would be interested in:

Josh Manson - 0.5 WAR
Damon Severson - 0.8 WAR (2 years left tough to retain)
Scott Mayfield 0.6 WAR (2 years left tough to retain)
Mark Pysyk - 0.8 WAR

If he's better defensively than I am aware of, I apologize. I just really see him as a goal scoring left winger - where the others can play centre (or right wing). and I thought were better defensively.

Probably fair, especially with retention!

No apologies necessary. I think Forsberg gets underrated defensively mainly due to his usage. The Preds have always been deep in defensive specialists, but have never had enough pure offensive talent. He doesn't get the tough defensive minutes because they need his scoring ability more, but he can hold his own. Even in the offensive zone he's not just a goal scorer though. He's got passing and play-making skill, and he's very physical.

Hertl to TOR is a very interesting idea with the Czech connections. It won't be the deal you posted, but it's certainly a place I could see him wanting to go.

And the fact that Tomas is on pace for a career year. I'd want Amirov and a 2022 1st.

Severson would cost more than two picks.
I'd think one of Liljegren, Niemela, Villenueve and a pick would more likely be the ask.
