We shouldn’t do that. I’d expect Rathbone to be a solid top 4D in the future. We don’t need another offensive minded LHD

Chychrun is only 1 year older than Rathbone but is a huge upgrade. I like Rathbone a lot but chychrun is the type of player I would trade him for.

Also wouldn’t call chychrun an “offensive minded” defenseman. He is very good in his own end as well (outside of this season where he has actually been kinda bad in all areas in general)

Toronto isn't giving up all that for 2 years of JT Miller. That's approaching what Vegas gave up for 5 years of Eichel.

This just isn’t true.

Krebs > Amirov
Tuch >>>>> Kerfoot

Also worth pointing out that Eichel has a $10 million cap hit where as in this scenerio Toronto would only be hit with a $3.25 million cap hit for JT Miller.

This trade and the Eichel trade are not comparable.

Jt miller is currently tied with Nylander for points per game which would rank 3rd on the leafs.

He’s also averaging more short handed ice time than any top 6 forward on the leafs.

He’s an all round player who would easily fit in on either the matthews line or the Tavares line. This represents a significant upgrade for the leafs while actually saving total cap dollars vs kerfoot

To me that's the type of trade you consider when your prospect cupboards are full and your ready to contend, not when your prospect cupboards are bare and you have an 8% chance of making the playoffs.

I'm not saying Miller isn't good, he'd be a great fit but I'm not giving up a top prospect and a 1st in a very strong draft for a 2 year rental who Toronto wouldn't be able to re-sign. Dubas would be risking his job over the next 2 years.

Man the leafs gave up a first for a 2 week rental third liner in Foligno last year. If two firsts for a ppg player that plays all aspects of the game well then I don't know what they can do. Kerfoot is only in there to make the money work I would expect. Also who says they can't resign him after the second year, in all they only have 3 more years of this core to win a cup so if they don't go all in now they might as well just trade everyone and start again.

Chychrun is 23. Miller is 27. I get it’s a lot to give up but this isn’t about contending for this year, it’s about rebalancing the structure of the team and getting younger

The Foligno trade was horrible. Taylor Hall went for a 2nd round pick not sure why Dubas gave up a 1st for Foligno.

Taylor Hall wasn't going anywhere but Boston, he hand cuffed Buffalo. They ended up just being happy to get something for him.

Vancouver is not one piece away form contending this year or for multiple years, realistically they are likely 3-4 years away from contending and that's if they keep their high picks. Trading away multiple 1st round picks in deep drafts doesn't make sense to me, even for a player of Chychrun's age and caliber.
If they decide to trades players such as Miller it should be to stockpile picks/prospects so those players can help support the current core players under 24 who will be the backbone of a team that may be able to compete in 3-4 years.
