Habs plan pt1

Created by: eddyed24
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 17, 2021
Published: Dec. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I will do this one two parts. The first one, the plan for this season, so tdl, draft and part 2 for next season.

I do believe that Montreal could do a rebuild and that it could be done pretty quick since they have young people at almost every position: Primeau (goaltender), Ghule, Romanov (defense), Suzuki (center), Caufield (rw).

For this season, pretty simple, Habs need to sell off everybody with a year left on their contract and if the offer is one they can't refuse sell out some other guys.

Once that is done they need to think on the draft. If they draft first Wright is a no brainer. Then depending on the position they draft (at the moment I'm writing this they would draft second), I think they should select either Slafkovsky or Savoie.
Slafkovsky is a big body and as future big write all over him with a 6'4'' and 225 lbs, plus he's a lw, a position the Habs don't have a young promising player. The other option would be to draft Savoie who is currently the best player in the whl.

P.S. I started this a while ago (a little before he was claimed) so that's why Clague is not on this lineup

Additional Details:
at the tdl
NYR
  1. Chiarot, Ben ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
There's reports that some teams are willing to pay a 1st for Chiarot service. He would be a good fit there and NYR as ton of cap space to add another player before the tdl
3.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (MTL)
ARI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
4.
MTL
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Kulak, Brett ($850,000 retained)

MTL
  1. Välimäki, Juuso
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Calgary is deep on defense with the likes of Andersson, Hanifin, Tanev, Kylington on the top 4. Gudbranson, Zadorov and Stone play as the 5-6 or 7th defenseman. Mtl could use him and he's still a relatively young defenseman
CGY
  1. Toffoli, Tyler
Additional Details:
Toffoli gives calgary what they need a top 6 rw and his contract is very capfriendly. They could use him to bolster their chance for a depth playoff run.
6.
MTL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
2nd round pick turns into a 1st if Minnesota gets in the WCF and Lehkonen play 50% of the games in the playoff.
MIN
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi
Additional Details:
Lekhonen is a solid defensive and a hardwork working guy even if the goals doesn't come by. Minnesota needs to win now because the buyout of Parise and Suter will hurt next season and for the next 2 years.

The last thing the Rangers should be using their 1st round pick on is Chiarot. They have far more pressing needs than him.

I mean i wouldnt pay a 1rst for a 3 pairing D . Dont quote me wrong he would be on 3rd pair with the Rangers
Is it me or Toffoli value went up while he only had a good season last year ...
If im Wild ill take that , looks fair imo.

I think it all comes down to the progress of Jones and Schneider. If those two aren't ready for next season or the following, I'd spend a first on Chairot to upgrade Nemeth. With that, I don't watch enough MTL games to ascertain whether it's a big enough of an upgrade to lose the first. We are at a point though, where we can start moving picks for specific roster upgrades. Nothing crazy like the Sather days but a pick here or there for certain upgrade is reasonable this season and beyond if the players are retainable.

Flames probably arent moving Valimaki, as Zadorov definitely isn't coming back

Besides a lhd and a top 6 winger and maybe a more solid backup, Rangers are solid. Tbh I wouldn't pay a 1st on Chiarot, but since most reports suggest he might gets a 1st round and the fact that Chiarot was listed as the number 1 tradebait on tsn, that suggest that he'll get a 1st.

Like I said I wouldn't pay a 1st also but as we speaking it seems that this is a return Mtl could get.
Toffoli stock went up, just as Chiarot this year. I mean last season Chiarot was okay but not wow. Now with Weber out and Petry playing so bad, Chiarot is our number 1 defenseman this year, just like last season Toffoli was our #1 forward.

Chiarot is in the final year of his contract. The thought process here is as a rental for the playoffs to supplement for Nemeth, however theres no way we get rid of Nemeth without overpaying someone. Schneider has no bearing on Nemeth, Chiarot, Jones, or Miller since theyre all LD and Schneider is a RD.

A 2C or 3C and RW should be the #1 priority here.

Rangers fans really overestimating their Defense. Top 2 definitely very good with Trouba and Fox. After that, it's pretty average especially for a long playoff run. Seriously, if you think Hartman, Nemeth and Tinordi get you through a long run , you need to watch more playoff hockey.

Hartman? No Hartman on this team. Trouba and Fox both play on the right side. Our top 4 is pretty solid most nights. Miller could use some improvement, but he'll get there.
