Jets Trade for Tanev and Appleton to bring back some familiarity

Created by: FuelYourJets
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 21, 2021
Published: Dec. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is based off of the 1st Trade Option, first and foremost. A Lineup that would just fit $1,355 at 22 players with Maximum retention on Tanev at $1,750,000(till 2025) and paying $171,000 for Appleton on the rest of the Season. The rest of the 2021-2022 season.

In this case, this would be the Potential look locked up going forward... The 2nd Trade Option is the 2022 offseason. After hopefully a Cup win with this Lineup and Harkins and Svechnikov, we could trade them... So there could be room for Heinola and Perfetti to take their roster spots. There is $175,000 Cap space to make room for players up to $925,000 on ELC's*. So that we could see Samberg, Lundmark, Chisholm, Gawanke, Torgersson and Lucius throughout the year next year. Possibly even Smith, Rashevsky and Chibrikov too... Then after we could see what potential paths lay ahead, what kind of trades and good offers we could possibly listen to.

Like the sentiment, but jets need to move forward not backwards, need next Appleton/tanev, got to turn vesa and harkins into something, see what they got with Gus, and also heinola. So possibly time to move a defender or two to make some room. Copp might have priced his way out of town, but I hope not

50% retention for four years isn't realistic at all, best to leave the band broken up and move on, Appleton maybe but I'd pass on bringing back Tanev, its unfortunate that the Jets have let some decent players go and kept some real dead weight for so long.

Overpaying for players that aren't difference makers and giving away decent players fur nothing when they're playing well, Durant help the team. If you want to live in the past, maybe the Jets should see what Lee Stempniak is doing?

Massive over pay for 2 middle 6 guys.
Could see Appleton back for Vesalainen or a 2nd or a 3rd+Beaulieu , but no chance in hell are you getting a 1st for him…and there is less than zero interest in Tanev back to Winnipeg.

Toninato and Beaulieu are not decent players. They are place holders and are definitely trade fodder… especially Beaulieu. He needs to get the hell off the team as soon as possible.

Toninato is the same level of player as Appleton, so that's a lateral move. Beaulieu I agree though can go. It's just a huge step backwards to make a lateral move and give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd to get Tanev back.

I really liked Tanev and Appleton, but if Chevy made the trade above her should be fired or should at least resign.

Toninato is a lefty and Apples is a righty… that right there puts Appleton above Toninato in need. Also, Apples is a middle 6 guy and Toninato is bottom 6. If I could move Toninato and a 3rd for Appleton, I would in a heartbeat

You're putting too much weight on shot side for players of this level IMO. Considering that Toninato has one less point than Appleton by playing a little more than half of the ice time, if Appleton is middle 6, so is Toninato. As I said, a lateral move.

You may think that paying a premium to make a lateral move because you like one guy and not the other is a good move, but I don't.

The Jets still need to change some things, but making poor trades based on nostalgia for a past player isn't the way to go about it IMO.
