Rangers trade is awful for Van, and they aren't giving up a 2nd in the Isles trade

Isles trade opens $3.5M in cap space in following year and unloads two questionable contracts

Vancouver still has no interest in Clutterbuck, and they certainly aren't looking to trade Dickinson. Mayfield hasn't even been good this year, so I don't see them adding any high draft picks to exchange Poolman for him either

Mayfield is a lot better than Poolman, no one is taking poolmans albatross contract without sweeteners

Poolman has been playing fine for Vancouver, he contract is not an albatross at all. Worst case scenario, his contract is extremely buyout friendly actually. Mayfield has been on the 3rd pair on the Isles depth chart, I'm not going to be tricked into overpaying for him

Mayfield has been middle pair for a few years, top pair this year with Pulock hurt. He is probably an ideal middle pair dman, but has not played 3rd pair minutes in years.

The trade doesn’t rally make sense for either team though, clutterbuck while playing playing well is a 4th line UFA which doesn’t have much value. And the isles rather sign mayfield to a poolman like contract.

I love how you say that a 4 year deal in year 1 "is not an albatross at all" and then literally the next sentence talk about how its buyout friendly.

I know, but I was also talking about worst case scenario, so there is context to it. Just look at Phillip Grubauer over in Seattle

In all honesty, Vancouver has no incentive to move any of their players right now, let alone one of their more minimal contributors like Poolman

That's a fair assessment, I don't know what the market is going to be like for Mayfield when he's set to become a UFA

Mayfield is a prime candidate to be overpaid, a fair contract is $3m for 4 years. Anything beyond that is an overpay which a team could make in UFA.
