Losing out to Caigary on signing UFA Markstrom was a kick to the junk.

This is a much better team.

It's hard to say if that gets Buch because I think Drury had a hard-on for Blais (I think that's who went back?).

Also, I think VGK probably sends Fleury out of division to someone like Az if he can't go to Chi.

Even if those moved don't happen, now you've got 12m in cap space to leverage at the deadline or in UFA.

How is that trade for Buch much better than what the Blues got? Kassian is a joke at 3.3 million, Jones wouldn't even be a top 7 defenseman on the Blues.

That's the funny part, Jones wouldn't be heading to St. Louis in this reality. This offer would've been to beat out St. Louis' offer to NYR for Buch

This is what the Oilers would offer the Rangers for Buch
2 second round picks a young defensemen and yeah Kassian isn’t a lot but he does add some toughness which the Rangers wanted this summer, is a lot more then what St Louis gave up for him

Kassian has negative value and Jones is not close to Blais, nor would Jones be playing in New York. Adding a 2nd to make up for Kassian doesn't make the package better considering he's signed for 2 more years than Reaves. That's why they went out and got Reaves, toughness on a rental deal. Blais and a 2nd is a better deal in the immediate future and cap wise in the longer future.
