They get out of the Ullmark contract, can run with the tandem of Rask and Swayman next year
They improve their wingers while trading away DeBrusk who needs a fresh start

How do they improve their wingers?
Ullmark isn’t exactly a toxic contract. They could just move him for a pick isn’t he off-season and not give up studnicka, or take on all that crap.

Yeah I think it would be tough for Edmonton fans to give up Yamamoto, but they have to do something to acquire a goalie that can save pucks

Foegele + Yamamoto > DeBrusk
I don't think Ullmark isn't a terrible contract, but if Boston believes Swayman is the goalie of the future, why not have Rask mentor him and split starts together next year?
Get cap for next year and push before Pastrnak's contract has to be renewed. The core isn't getting any younger.

I think that should be the plan.

This doesn’t help that goal.

I personally don't see how it doesn't help the goal, but since it seems like you're a Bruins fan you could probably help me out.
All the Bruins have to do this summer is re-sign Bergeron and Yamamoto (if the trade were to go through), and whoever they want to keep of Lazar/Blidh/Kuhlman/Zboril/AHLers
They can use the cap space from trading Ullmark + DeBrusk for another center
Boston essentially trades Ullmark + DeBrusk for Foegele + Yamamoto + center since Koskinen and Perlini are gone in the summer anyways

Where are Yamamoto and foegele playing? How do they improve the boston bruins? What do they provide that players on the current roster do not provide?

It’s not a question of value, its a question of fit. Studnicka is also a big part of this. It’s inexplicable that he isn’t playing. Hopefully ownership cleans house soon.

You obviously know Boston's lines better than me, but I see it as:
Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak
Hall-New Center-Yamamoto
Foligno-Coyle-Smith
Frederic-Haula-Foegele
I think that the forward group has the possibility to be one of the better groups in the league, but again, you know how the lines fit better than me.

Studnicka is a big part of this, but the way I see it is will he really fit the timeline of the Bruins? I obviously didn't include Lysell, but what other prospects does Boston have?

Yeah, I don't really rate Sweeney too highly, thank god Van cleaned house.

Well smith is now playing on the top line. I think he’s a good fit in the top six, and miles better than Yamamoto. Bruins have infinite bottom six options, so Yamamoto and foegele are just kind of redundancies

Fair enough, though I do think this would help diversify their attack.

It’s the kind of thing where if haula and foligno and nosek etc weren’t on the roster, i could see it being feasible.

Ullmark has a NMC - so forget the goalie part entirely, unless EDM wants to give two 1st round picks for Swayman (would be worth the risk for EDM to salvage 97 and 29 prime years). Vladar in CGY is ++ and he was Swayman's backup.
Too bad Foligno has a NMC too, otherwise happy to ship him to EDM for anything, but forget all the spare parts from EDM for a goalie and LW.
If they want JD - two 2nd round picks is the price given EDM free fall and McJesus on Covid list. EDM is desperate to do something before the local media gets the coach fired and Holland hires Babcock.
