The defensemen the leafs actually need

Created by: Leafsleaks123

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2022 5th round pick (OTT)
2.
TOR
  1. Roy, Matt
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Roy is a great player and signed a new contract pretty recently, but the Kings are absolutely loaded on RHD. Next year they’ve got Doughty, Durzi, and Walker, and in the pipeline they have Clarke, Grans and Faber who all look like future top four defensemen. I think if the Kings fall out of the playoff hunt this would be a good move for them to clear a path for some of their younger guys
LAK
  1. 2022 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
The leafs clearly need a top four right handed defensemen who can actually play defence (unlike a certain Stars defensemen) and when in doubt, Dubas always trades with the Kings. Roy would be a great fit as he’s fantastic defensively and is on a great contract.

I don’t really mind it on the leafs end, but LA really has no reason to move him.

The problem here is that Los Angeles' primary (and outspokenly voiced) need is for a young LD with term. Another first in the 25 to 32 range isn't high on our wish list. Roy for Sandin might work, but the Kings are the ones taking the risk there. To put it another way, your suggestion is right on value but wrong on need. Still, events might prove you a better fortuneteller than me.

Not a bad point, I believe Sandin is untouchable for the leafs right now, and unfortunately there aren’t any good LHD prospects in the leafs system. The first obviously could turn into a quality LHD but that’s the beauty of it, LA can get whatever they want from the first instead of limiting themselves to acquiring a certain prospect

I already explained LA’s reason in the trade but to summarize, the Kings have a ton of depth in the system at RHD and in this scenario they have fallen off and aren’t going to make the playoffs so they’re freeing opportunity for their younger defensemen

Even with a playoff team, Justin Holl has had a god awful season somehow.

We might not even claim him off waivers.

Try again.

Then I think walker is the guy to go for. He’s on their bottom pair but can play top 4 minutes. He’s pretty underrated. A good puck mover and good defensively. They don’t really need him with Clarke coming up, but Roy they need a bit to insulate him.

Not a bad theory, but we're probably happy to let Clarke's education continue in Ontario for another year, Grans isn't close to making the jump to the NHL yet and Faber isn't even signed, so I think we'll be keeping the guy who's been our most dependable defender.

I agree completely. Walker is very underrated and on a team-friendly contract, but I'm afraid that his season-ending injury debases his trade value. I really like his game. I think he's better than Justin Holl, but then, who doesn't?

I think Leafs are gonna trade for a rental and that rental probs gonna be Braun. Guy is a solid defender on a bad philly team. His PK numbers are solid and he could be the perfect shutdown partner for Muzzin. And will cost us almost nothing and should be cheaper to extend

One of the reasons is due to the Leafs losing Bogo and thus giving Holl other tough assignments
