That's an awful price trade. Edmonton would never pay that. Also why would Arizona use their last retention slot and retain for 5 years for only a second. Don't understand how people think price is worth anything let alone all that.

Why exactly do you feel at $3.15M, Price is worth nothing? I agree Arizona would demand more for retention, but people that think Price is worthless are laughable.

They can't without sending salary back. That's why Scandella keeps going the other way in all these trades. Sure this would be a fine deal for the Blues but would put them well over the cap unless they are able to pull some TB-style LTIR shenanigans.

Well he hasn't played a single game yet this year. It's not known if he will play a single game yet this year. He's been regressing for the last few years. I also still think he can play at an elite level just not as often. He's also 34 and getting paid into he's 39. So he may have some value but this trade is ridiculous.

Rask hasnt played a single game either, and everyone acts like Boston is getting a star goalie back. Same age. The last time Price played, he dragged a team to the Cup. Find a decent goalie to play 50% regular season games, and its fine.

Rask has just had a consistently better career. Price has stunk the last three seasons, and now isn’t playing due to off-ice issues. Rask played his last with a torn hip labrum which has since been repaired. He had a vezina caliber season when he tore the hip labrum. Let’s take a look at the last four seasons. Over that stretch, Tuukka is 8th in save percentage (I set a games limit, i want to say it was 50 games), .003 away from being in 2nd, and is 1st in goals against average.

Carey Price on the other hand? 29th in save percentage. 24th in goals against. Which one would you be more confident in coming back strong?

Price is also returning from injury. And nothing I said meant to be an insult at Rask.

It’s a much less defined injury. And he’s also sucked. Giving up multiple high picks for a guy thats in his position is insanity.

I am not talking about this deal specifically. Just the overwhelming outcry that Price is suddenly done, when the last time he was on the ice, he proved otherwise.

His knee injury. His other off-ice issues, sound like they were due to pain killers. Price has been playing injured for years, including last playoffs.

No, he’s played hurt. There is a difference.

I don’t think there’s a sudden outcry that price is done. I think people are seeing the obvious, which is that five years of Carey price at 10 million is very negative value, five years of Carey price at 50% is where people might start to take the gamble if there is no return, and that below that is still a huge risk.

In terms of performance, he got hot for a couple weeks and kudos to him. But outside of those couple weeks, he’s sucked for the last four years, as i just pointed out with some pretty hard to ignore evidence. I think those thinking about the last four years rather than the last few weeks of Carey price are seeing things a lot more clearly.

Ok, you are entitled to your opinion. I just find it pretty inconvenient to your breakdown, that the last two times he peaked, was the playoffs.

Right, so you value 30 games over hundreds and hundreds. He stood on his head for a couple weeks. Nothing special against tampa. WPG didn’t have a pulse. Yes, he stole two series, but there’s nothing to indicate that was anything more than standard deviation

Price had no goal support against Tampa. His level of play didnt drop. The Jets playing like ****, doesn't make Price worse, he can only play the team in front of him. Sorry, but you are nitpicking what counts and what doesnt. For the 6 playoff series that past two years, he stood on his head.

Allen was brought into Montreal to take a load off of Price for the regular season, at $3.15M as per this post, more than enough room to get a "regular season" decent goalie and use Price more like a playoff goalie (as Habs did last year). "Load Management"

Oh, okay, so when his team plays poorly, that’s fine, not Price’s fault
But woah, when the other team plays like crap don’t you take that away from Carey!

Cmon bud you can’t have it both ways.

Again, I already said I am not blaming Montreals performance in the standings on price, so they goal support argument has no place in this discussion. He sucked over a stretch of four seasons. Not good. There’s no way around it. Around the bottom of the league in performance.
