Playoff Lines after TDL 20

Description
These are lines for playoffs so salary cap doesn't matter...

I just can't with Hagelin anymore. Supposed to be the penalty killer guru, but has taken so many penalties this year. Can't finish. Plays wayyy to much. Send him down, hope he gets taken on waivers (not sure which team would want him anyways) and then try to move in offseason.

Would rather pay for a guy like Calle so Hags doesn't play at all.

MFA trade - I think that is totally reasonable. If the asking price is a 1st, Caps should look at another option. Draft class this year is too valuable.

It's not even necessarily about asking price with MAF. It is about market value. You would easily get out bid with an offer like that.

Got it - Then I think the Caps should pass.

Hmmm...I don't know. I would rather have Sammy. I guess the next few weeks will tell.

But I do agree with you - Holtby would be a better option for the Caps. I already did one with Holtby so was just playing around

I'm not a fan of going for Fleury. As mentioned by Garak, which I agree with, someone would outbid Washington. My preferred target, though he'd probably have to get dealt in the offseason, would be James Reimer. I've been a big fan of him, and I think he can bring a veteran presence to both goalies and would fit well in a tandem/committee, sort of like Carolina with Reimer, Mrazek, and Nedelkjovic. Only problem is he has 1 year left after this, so he would either have to be traded, or Vanecek is likely off to Edmonton (or somewhere else). Edit: price to get him shouldn't be too bad either.

Sammy is better. I wouldn't want to trade either but if I had to deal one it would be Vanecek. Holtby has seemingly struggled recently and the stat going for him, SV%, seems unsustainable when looking at his last 4 years. He's not better than either of them when VV and Sammy are playing normally (outside of the traditional January slump)

Good points all around - I am probably in the small majority here, but I do not think there is a *massive* need for a goalie acquisition. I think offensive depth is needed (assuming Mantha is not going to come back until playoffs). Goalie would be nice, depending on the price. Looking at last playoffs - Sammy did well enough for the Caps to win (despite Game 3 horrible OT play). Caps lacked offense / energy, that's all.

I feel the same way. I honestly think that the Caps should stay fairly silent at the deadline and bolster from within, bar a depth defenseman perhaps (I have no trust in Cholowski). I wouldn't be opposed to a depth forward or two, but I think they could also allow Leason/Protas to stay up and be the depth. I also feel about the same about your last sentence, which is a big part of why I would be on a Reimer bus instead of Fleury.

Remember though, all 1st's are not created equal. Yes it is a pretty deep and exciting draft. But a late 1st is only slightly more valuable than an early 2nd. And I doubt the caps will be in the top 20 picks where most of the magic is.

Couldn't agree more. Depth Defensive acquisition is bound to with GMBM. Offensive depth couldn't hurt, but I would like to see extended ice time for Protas and McMichael in the next few weeks. Let them prove that they can stay in the line up instead of trading picks for more "veteran" type players.

I think the Caps need all the prospects they can get. Yes, they have a better prospect pool than expected (which was shown this year). But eventually, the Caps have to hold onto some of these 1st and 2nd for a potential on the fly roster re-bolster.

For sure. Not trying to talk you into it. Just figured I would mention it because so many people on here act as if all 1st round picks have the same value.
