How does overpaying for 2 bottom pairing defenceman, a bottom 6 forward, and a 3rd strong goalie help?

Mayfield played 22 minutes a game last year in the playoffs with a +12 rating and leafs could use an upgrade on Holl
Hankinpaa would help solidify the third pair and would help on the penalty kill
Crouse is a better version of ritchie, he's an RFA and you would be able to unload the ritchie contract as well
Third goalie is just in case of injury as leafs do not have a third option

Both defensemen have term also at cheap which is something the leafs need

mikheyev is looking too gross right now. He was always a speedy defensive forward that had a million chances but never finished. He's finishing this year (with 6 goals in 8 games); I don't expect that to continue at that rate but if he can actually finish now he's a very dangerous player, and a key part of our checking line. I'd rather just give up a draft pick

Mayfield has a goal for % of 30%. He's allowed 20 high danger goals against as well. He's really not that great.
