Honestly that’s a pretty good deal for both sides IMO. Hajek is an improvement over Hutton and Krautwickel is cheap. Gallant gets two Misfits to work with.

He hasn’t been awful but I think Hajek would be better in the system. Could be wrong but that’s why I’m not paid to do this.

So the Sabres pay a second for a left d that they don't need, in the hopes that they can flip him- if they retain on him for 2 years, and hope that the return would be worth more than a second? The math is way off here unless Edmonton is offering more than a first. Think of it this way, buffalo is basically buying draft picks, so they have to recoup the second that they spent to acquire Martinez, and then make it worth their while to pay money and waste a retention spot for 2 years.

rangers deal looks good but i dont think we'd trade martinez so soon, we need his shot blocking and offensive upside badly in our blueline. i could see the rangers deal staying and then sending some of the others in henderson or through waivers to relieve the remaining cap
