Is that all you are willing to give up? If so, then it won't happen. Taylor Hall (elite winger) was traded for Adam Larsson (second pairing defenseman). You want to give up a late first round pick for John Carlson (top pair defenseman). I don't like using the Hall-Larsson trade as a template, but the market for defense is high, and you're trying to give me a pick that would result in a player picked in the second round in last year's draft for a #1 defenseman

I'd need one of Zacha, Svechnikov or McCleod to make something happen. If you want to do the first and more, you'd have to add Scherbak and another good prospect.

Carlsons numbers have declined alot over the past 2 years and he only has 1 year left on his contract, not giving up that much

His numbers have declined because he was injured for a lot of last year, and this year he was hurt for a little bit, got reduced minutes to start the year, and then got those minutes reduced even more when Shattenkirk came along. Nothing to worry about there.
