Cap compliance this and next year

Created by: Woolkins
Team: 2021-22 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2022
Published: Jan. 28, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I had mostly been playing around with moving Smith + McNabb to get Vegas cap compliant this year. The problem there is it doesn’t really address the off-season cap issue. This scenario does that. Allows Vegas to resign their RFA and field a team roster of 22 instead of scratching by with minimum. With Vegas’ defensive woes, losing Martinez is not ideal but neither would be any scenario. They’re going to need to get compliant when all are healthy. If Vegas knew they were going to nab Eichel and that Hague and Whitecloud’s development into legit defensemen were going to happen, Martinez wouldn’t have received the contract.
Trades
1.
VGK
  1. Leddy, Nick ($2,750,000 retained)
  2. Zadina, Filip ($350,000 retained)
DET
  1. Kolesar, Keegan
  2. Martinez, Alec
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (VGK)
  4. 2023 5th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Detroit’s set at RD. Their LD are all on expiring contracts, though the future is promising. Martinez can provide the veteran presence to bridge that future. Zadina has been rumored to be on the outs. Detroit replaces the 2nd they lost in deal to acquire Leddy.
2.
VGK
  1. Anderson, Craig ($375,000 retained)
  2. Boychuk, Johnny
Additional Details:
Leddy is facilitated through Buffalo with them retaining 1/4 of his total salary. Boychuk’s cost and the total salary Buffalo will be retaining are equal, so the real life expenses are evened out. Cap wise he slides into Vegas’ LTIR.
BUF
  1. Brossoit, Laurent
  2. Coghlan, Dylan
  3. Janmark, Mattias
Additional Details:
Coghlan at one point was rumored to be part of the Eichel deal. Janmark can be flipped for a 3rd or 4th if Buffalo retains half his salary.

We have to keep Boychuk to meet cap floor. Other than that Buffalo says thanks very much, hope Anderson wins the cup with you

After looking it over, I quite like that trade for Detroit. At least the principle of it. Martinez would be a good bridge guy to pair with Hronek while we wait on the kids and Kolesar would be a good fit on our fourth line (not to mention he's a right shot). I might want more pick compensation though, Zadina and Leddy together with retention is a good package that's deserving of just a little more IMO.

we also have a habit of trading players to their hometown so it would be good on a personal note for martinez, as much as i wouldn't want to trade him lol

I don't hate that trade at all either but I feel like with Zadinas potential I would want a bit more.

Would Leddy retained for Martinez be enough, considering the cap crunch?

The 2 main pieces are Martinez 34 and Zadina 22.

Leddy is 30 why not just keep him because once Martinez's contract is up he most likely retires.

Kolesar is a bottom 6 forward at best.

Take out Zadina and replace with Hirose and take out the draft picks and it fair.

Yeah I'm with you. I just can't see them trading out 22 year old Zadina for 34 year old Martinez when Detroit is a young and growing team. Also Detroit has probably the best LHD prospect pool in the league (Wallinder, Edvinsson, amd Buium), so idk why they would make a rash decision and trade for a LHD when they probably miss the playoffs this year

I honestly think if Zadina hasn't figured out how to score and I say that because he is playing well. He will be gone by the TDL next season unless Yzerman gets a can't pass up offer.

I could see acquiring a player like Martinez to fill the void as we have no one signed for LD for the next season. I like Martinez and would love to see him rock the winged wheel.
