Fixed Isles 17-18 Season

Created by: IslesHockey
Team: 2017-18 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2017
Published: Apr. 3, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Isles let De Haan walk. Let Hickey get drafted by Vegas. Both absolute garbage who shouldnt even be in the AHL honestly let alone the NHL. Sign Soderstrom to fill the gap while Sorokin finishes his contract in the KHL. Sign Tom Gilbert, a better defenseman than Hickey and De Haan combined. Get the winger they so desperately need in Duchene, even though he's a true center he's played wing before and to play with Tavares isnt a bad gig. Trade Nelson away to a team that needs center depth, first team I could think of was Montreal. Ladd hopefully finally finds his game along the electric youth. Team relies on their rookies at first, but I definitely think it can be a team made to complete for a while with this lineup. All with freeing up cap to be able to sign JT to the monster contract he deserves. Just fire Snow and hire me.

That looks like one of the worst defences in the league. not trying to be mean, but that leaves only 2 top 4 D-Men in my opinion.

If you think theyre better off with Hickey and De Haan youre absolutely nuts

IDK where you're getting your information from, but De haan is solid bottom 3 Defensemen, good gap control, well positioned, cool headed with the puck, decent turnover ratio, average corsi. these are things you want to see out of your bottom 3. Hickey has served his purpose. To say hes terrible is a pretty uninformed statement. Now if you were to say the islanders need more siz in the bottom three, that is an accurate statement. they have one of the smallest D-corps in league

Grabo on LTIR does not grant full cap relief. Kulemin is an unnecessary buyout

Linus Soderstrom is a 20 yr old prospect. he has no business riding the bench as a back up, unless of course you dont want him to ever develop. There has been no indication that Sorokin wants to sign with NYI or even the NHL. there are several FA goalies on the market this year, trading halak will not be easy. the chance to do it was at the deadline but Snow didnt want to eat salary. Bailey should be traded in the offseason. his stock is high and his contract is up after next year.

Unless NYI compensates VGK for taking Hickey, I don't see it happening. but its too early to tell with the protected list not finalized.

I see this mistake with people in the fan base all the time: Barzal, while a sure fire 2nd line center talent, is not even close to being ready to take on that role and there is no reason to rush him along.

Nelson is not a center he has played barely any center while in the league and does not have the overall game to play it at this level.

With so many contracts coming off the books after the 2017-2018 season there is no need to clear this much cap room for a JT extension.

This is abysmal. De Haan was their best defenseman for the entire season. He's an excellent d-man who plays his role perfectly and is on a cheap deal. Have you watched an Islanders game all season?
