Well, to begin with, I don't see LD as a position of priority for the Canucks. Both Hughes and OEL are signed through 2026-2027 (i.e., five more years), which would seem to put a damper on Zellweger's development chances. Meanwhile, Zellweger is our #1 LD prospect. (If Vancouver really does want an LD prospect, I'd feel fine about giving them Jackson LaCombe or Henry Thrun.) And I agree with you about the first and second, especially in the same draft year.
I think Vancouver might be interested more in forward help. My idea would be the 2022 first, Max Jones or Sam Steel, and perhaps another prospect, like maybe even Brayden Tracey (but not Jacob Perreault or Sasha Pastujov).
Honestly, tried to think up what I'd offer, but everything that I'd consider doesn't get it done anyway, especially in their own division. Honestly, I don't think the OP is far off in his asking price, though I think the assets would be spread out a bit more (Move one of the picks to 2023?). Regardless, I'm not into it.
I guess I'm sitting here being like "Why not keep what it would cost, and just go hard on a guy like Gaudreau, Forsberg, or even try and steal Hertl in UFA?". Up and coming team in SoCal, with a boatload of cap space. Might be a biased Ducks fan thing to say, but that seems like a decent spot to sign, no? Even someone like Palat would on a 3 year deal would be a decent addition (I'd say Kadri for 4 years, but that guy is gonna get paiiiiiid!).
