Only slightly better but better

Description
Most Habs except Lehkonen are playing so badly that they are diminishing their trade value with every passing game. I still have some hope that Gorton and Hughes can squeeze some value out of the 2022 TDL and 2022 draft all the same. The eastern conference playoff race is basically set but the west is bit more wide open for the last couple playoff spots which will create a bit of a bidding war for certain players. Some contracts (Hoffman, Gallagher, Petry, Price) are all but untrade-able without major retention or bringing back even worse contracts. Hoffman could probably be easily moved if necessary at the TDL in his third and final year but I think he is around one more full season.

ARI
  1. Weber, Shea
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Assuming he doesn't officially retire, Weber's cap hit vs actual salary is very attractive to the Coyotes. In a deal somewhat similar to the Datsyuk deal, the Coyotes move up a couple spots in the draft (the first selection in round 2), but trade draft volume back to the Habs in exchange.
3.
MTL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (NSH)
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
Picks with performance conditions. If the Preds make the Western Conference finals and Drouin plays 50% + of the games, the 2022 4th becomes a 2nd. If Drouin scores fewer than 25 points in 2022-2023, season, the 2023 pick becomes a 3rd.
NSH
  1. Drouin, Jonathan ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
At 2022 TDL. Drouin could probably only be moved with significant retention and with performance conditions on the return as well. For 1.5 seasons at 3.5 million and in an opportunity to play in a lower pressure environment, Drouin might be a shrewd add for a team like Nashville hoping to surprise in the playoffs without giving up their future.

WSH
  1. 2022 4th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
2022 TDL - Chiarot with 50% retention. Not necessarily Washington, just some playoff bound team. Chiarot makes sense as a minute eating physical presence on an already talented team, as when he thrived in the 2021 playoffs.

Smart with Arizona. They will love his contract since the actaul cap hit is way more than the actual salary for the remainder of his career.

It's NOT a 6-million-dollar problem. It's a $34-million-over-5-years, $8-million-in-2023/2024, $9-million-in-2024/2025 problem.

You’re not getting positive value on Weber’s contract. I don’t know what fantasy land habs fans live in, but Arizona isn’t bailing you out of your cap situation and paying you to do it

They made nearly the same trade before with Datsyuk (they traded the 20th at 53rd picks for the 16ht overall an Datsyuk's contract)... Arizona moves up in the draft to get the equivalent of a late first rounder (32 overall) in exchange for what might be the 40th and 42nd overall. So they get value in having a better shot at a good player in exchange for one less pick. They also get a contrat with a big cap hit to help them reach the floor, but with very few dollars paid out in actual fact, so a huge win. They can claim 7.8 million against the cap for the next 4 years while only having to pay Weber 6 million over those 4 years. Considering their precarious financial status, that is really good value.
