Realistic deadline

Created by: Saskleaf
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2022
Published: Jan. 31, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pretty sure when you account for deadline cap space and the extra Manson cap hit this is under the cap. Liligren, Holl get subbed in every once and a while. Same with Bellows. I might be underestimating how much Bellows and Mayfield are worth, isles fans let me know. It can be Parise or someone similar as well, the point is a depth forward is part of that trade.

Let me know what you think of this team. Is it realistic? Is it worth it for the leafs? Should they go after other players? Let me know your thoughts.

I figured since he barely plays NYI would be fine to give him up.

Anaheim may require more to trade Manson as they’re in the hunt and no immediate replacement

Would it help if one of Dermott or Holl was sent the other way?

I think that whether Manson is available depends upon whether the Ducks are still in the hunt at the trade deadline. (It should be noted that when you looked at the Pacific Division's standings when all teams have played 41 games, the Ducks are in fifth place and behind the two wild-card teams in the Central.). If they are, I doubt that we make any deal. If they're not, this is a perfectly fine return for him.

I think I'd take this even if there is still a chance the Ducks make the playoffs. A 1st in the 17-24 range would be great and I'm more than fine with giving up Manson for that.

Bc bellows has been solid this season and is worth more than dermott, and mayfield is worth more than a 2nd and 3rd. Thats why.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Trotz hate Bellows and never play him? He's probably worth more than Dermott but it's unlikely that he is to the isles. Also, I specified in the team description that it could be someone else, for example Parise. If it makes you feel better, switch Bellows for Parise. I just thought Bellows was a realistic target, but I could be wrong.

And also I think Mayfield=2nd+3rd. Don't see how he would be worth more, especially if Toews is only 2 second round picks (lol kind of kidding because that was a terrible trade from day 1, but seriously I can't see him fetching 2 2nds or more).

The way i see mayfield is he will get at least what savard/chiarot got. Even if you say hes a little worse which i would disagree on but even if that were the case the 2nd year at 1.45 certainly makes up for that. I dont see any way he gets less than them.
As for the trotz thing i doubt hes back next year, certainly hope not. I think lou wont move guys based on trotzs preferences anymore (considering how that turned out last time with leddy/toews)

I mean Chariot hasn't gotten a first yet, that's just the rumour (but it is likely that he does get a first round pick). But that's certainly possible that he gets that much. Teams like their big physical defenseman. If that is the case, the leafs should pass and go for someone cheaper.

Regarding Trotz, he absolutely should be gone by next season, but it's not a guarantee based on the teams success in seasons past. Lou might think it's better to trade off players that Trotz doesn't like to at least get someone that will be played under Trotz. But I could be wrong. For isles fans sakes, I hope I'm wrong, but that's just my thoughts.

Im hoping lou doesnt pull a trotz and double down and extend him. But i think given lous age he wants to win now. Im hoping he realizes it wont happen with barry and he goes a different route.

Trots isn’t a bad coach overall but he hates young players for some unknown reason. It’s starting to hurt the isles.

Honestly trotz will only be good on a team for 2-3 years. A team that could make sense is SJS or maybe FLA but the team that makes the most sense for me is PHI. Its a team that is built to win now, desperately needs to get better defensively, and has mostly vets. Probably his biggest strength is getting teams to embrace the underdog mentality and play tough, gritty hockey. Once they are the favorites its a lot harder to get the same commitment to that type of hockey. Players want to have a little fun. I think 2-3 years in philly would be great for both sides. The thing is with trotz especially its much better to end the relationship a year early than a year late.
